England pulled and rode in the wagon, James steered and rode part of the way under an umbrella for an American Legion picnic. They agreed to use a wagon after Roosevelt signed the dam bill, both enduring blistered feet and stiffness. Gillett's Station Destroyed by Fire Replaced Soon
Thomas Gillett, operator of Gillett's Texaco Station on the Y, said the station would be rebuilt after a fire destroyed the building shortly before 11 p m Monday. Losses were about 500 in stock and fixtures, with 300 insured. The station, bought a year ago and owned by Sherman Texaco, stood over 1000 feet from a fire plug and fell as firefighters prepared to fight the blaze.

Hampton Harper Named as Fannin Assessor-Collector
W. H. Hamp Harper of Savoy was appointed Fannin County tax assessor-collector by the county commissioners court Monday morning, succeeding Claude C. Hodge who died last week. Harper, 47, was Savoy mayor 1932 37, precinct 2 justice of peace 1936 37, ran runner-up to Hodge in 1938, ran a Savoy grocery hardware store 1931 35, bank teller at Bonham First National Bank, and recently worked on the Lake Davey Crockett land utilization project.

The USDA marketing service forecast Texas cotton harvest at 8.7 million acres for 1939, down from 8.784 million last year, based on July 1 conditions and 3.1 percent expected abandonment.
