The Merchants' Share the wealth program starts Saturday with gifts for shoppers in Whitewright. About 20 Chamber of Commerce merchants signed up to participate. Local storefronts added paint on several businesses while others need touch ups for a neater district.
Dr Paul E Geers 34 began general medical practice in Whitewright after residency at El Paso General. He and his wife Paula Brenda Jeanette aged 12 8 and 242 moved from El Paso. A UT Austin graduate and WWII veteran he earned a Purple Heart at Anzio and leases the Dr Ross May building with Dr Dinkler's records. He aims to treat children obstetrics and gynecology surgery.
Senator Byrd of Virginia told CBS News the Eisenhower administration is lessening its efforts for economy and must cut expenses to trim taxes next year. He suggested a 4 percent cut in federal outlays could balance the budget by July 1, 1956, noting existing reductions mainly in military spending from Korea’s end.

Born Caddo Mills Nov 7 1881 son of Elijah and the late Mrs. Randle. Survived by daughter Miss Joe Louise Randle of San Bernardino. Married Tommie Everheart at Whitewright Aug 14 1907. Earlier he ran a tailoring and laundry business until the family moved to California 33 years ago. He was a Presbyterian Church member.
J. L. Boone a Whitewright resident for over five decades and longtime Waples Platter driver died Friday in a Terrell hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J W Polk at the First Methodist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. He was born November 8 1865 in Mayfield Kentucky and was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are his son William A Boone of Dallas daughter Mrs A B Macaulay of Dallas two brothers J R Boone of Dallas and C R Boone of Los Angeles four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Another son Julian Boone died earlier.
Strasbourg firefighters walked out after the city refused a pay raise. A spokesman said they resented odd jobs like rescuing cats and storks, jacking derailed streetcars, and marching in political parades.
A vote to merge Pilot Grove Common School District with Whitewright Independent School District will occur Saturday at Whitewright and Pilot Grove. Polls run 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at both locations as local officials urge a strong turnout to welcome Pilot Grove residents.

A spiritual life crusade will run July 13 through July 24 at the Methodist Church with Dr. Frank L. Turner of Fort Worth preaching. Daily services at 7 a.m. and 7 45 p.m. feature community nights led by WSCS and church committees. Rev. John Wesley Polk assists as singer evangelist. he marks his 67th campaign with choirs and a Sunbeam Band for children.
A revival begins Friday night July 8 at Kentuckytown Baptist Church with services nightly at 8. Rev Paul E. Hunt county missionary will preach. Church pastor is Rev Hoyt Bledsoe. A vacation Bible school runs next week Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m.
Five month old Deborah Fikel of Pomona stands with all 12 grandparents and great grandparents in a nearby cluster. The hospital allows visitors but the parents joke about persuading relatives they were all actually grandparents.
Earl Fields commander of Ever heart Thornhill Post announces the annual American Legion picnic starts Wednesday July 13 and runs through the week with Negro night opening. Dr Sugart Shows will provide carnival attractions including a ferris wheel merry go round and 18 concessions. Parking will be free this year at the event.
Postmaster General Summerfield lauds the new postal pay law as ending a salary monstrosity and tying pay to efficiency, mail volume, and receipts. The reform raises many grades, with flat 6 percent raises and a potential 2 percent added, plus seven automatic annual increases and new pay ranges for 300,000 window clerks and carriers. Rural carriers gain mileage based pay, starting at $1,566 to $1,836 with per mile incentives.
