Realignment Of School Districts Urged By League

The Texas Research League urges realignment of school districts to improve education and save taxpayers. The report to the Texas Education Agency cites waste of teachers and funds, and calls for new district structures with local county and regional study committees. It sets three standards: 12 grades to at least 1,000 pupils, every community has a school, and travel time under 45 minutes for elementary and one hour for high school. It argues realignment could free money for broader foundations, autonomy, and better services amid growth.
