O W Barker a Whitewright High School vocational agriculture teacher says a meeting of farmers will be held at the agriculture building Tuesday January 16 at 2 pm. The session will discuss the outlook for the cotton production program this year with all area farmers urged to attend. It is sponsored by county agricultural agencies including the County Agent, Production and Marketing Administration, Soil Conservation Service and vocational agriculture departments.

New Social Security Rule Allows Earned Income for Retired Persons
Dallas area readers are told by Ernest L. Tutt that the 65 to 75 age group can collect retirement benefits while earning up to 50 dollars monthly on covered work, with the 50 dollar limit not applying to those 75 and over. The rule allows benefits if earnings stay under 50 monthly for ages 65 to 75. those 75 and older may work full time and still receive benefits. Tutt notes eligibility can begin as far back as January 1937 with any work history of at least a year and a half. He invites eligible residents to contact the Bureau of Old Age and Survivors Insurance at the Terminal Annex Building in Dallas. A farmer-turned-city worker recalls wasting money on women and whisky after a big pay.

Burglaries Hit Two Whitewright Businesses Tuesday Night
Thieves broke into Phillips grocery and Pascal Farley seed store, stealing cash registers and roughing up both offices. The Phillips register held about three dollars and was dumped along Kentuckytown road. the Pascal Farley unit was taken but contained no money. Sheriff Woody Blanton and Deputy H C Ross investigated, linking the incidents to a spate of county burglaries with recent arrests in Pottsboro and on Highway 75 north of Sherman.

Funeral services for Harvey Ovid Wood aged 61 were held at 2 30 PM Sunday at Friendship Church west of Sherman with burial in Friendship Cemetery under Glen Earnheart Funeral Service. He died at his home west of Whitewright after a 14 month illness. Born August 10 1889 in Former County Arkansas he moved to Texas at age nine with his parents. On November 1 1916 he married Goldie Goodman. He was a Methodist. Survivors include his wife two sons Archie and Ovid of Whitewright four daughters Lloyd Taylor of Denison Ruby Sylvia and Mrs H L Clem of Whitewright and three grandchildren.

Arthur Lyons 54 died at 10 p m Sunday at his home in Pampa from pneumonia. Funeral services were held in Pampa on Wednesday. Postmaster John Biggerstaff reports Whitewright’s post office had its strongest October through December 1950 business since the 1944 fourth quarter. Receipts for the quarter were the second highest on record, surpassed only by the 1934 fourth quarter, with the surge largely from Christmas mail handling.
