Tough safety rules under Texas Traffic Responsibility Act
Austin DPS director Col Homer Garrison Jr reminded motorists that the Safety Responsibility Act requiring drivers and owners to pay for damages became effective January 1 1964. The law suspends licenses and registrations for noncompliance after accidents with $100+ property damage or injury. Exemptions include no liability found, park or official duties, and U.S. government employees on duty.
