Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Barnheart Funeral Home for Mrs. H. R. Rhody 71 who died Sunday evening after a brief illness in a Sherman hospital. Rev. Howard Adams officiated burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. She was born September 11 1892 in Kentucky daughter of John and Mrs Hicks and married H. R. Rhudy November 19 1930 Whitewright. Survivors include her brother Tom Hicks Abilene sister Mrs. Jim Mullins Sherman and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Richard E. Simpson longtime Whitewright resident died at 3 45 am Wednesday in Amarillo where she lived with a daughter for weeks Funeral services are set for 11 am Friday at Barnheart funeral chapel with burial in Leonard Cemetery She is survived by four sons Paul Simpson Valley Mills George Simpson and Lester Simpson Dallas and Mervin Simpson Houston a daughter Mrs Ted Spinks Amarillo eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren
Funeral services for Minnie St. John 75 are set for 3 p m today at Earnheart chapel. She died Wednesday in a Fort Worth nursing home and will be buried in Pilot Grove Cemetery. She was lifelong in the Pilot Grove area near Whitewright. Survived by daughters Viola Evans Fort Worth Laura Brooks Dallas two brothers Everett Matthews Blue Ridge Clarence Matthews Muleshoe and four sisters Doll Clark Desert Lillian Mc Spedden Sherman Jessie Stephens Raleigh N C Luella Hutchins Grand Prairie.
Denny Davis a former Whitewright businessman died Friday in Lubbock and was buried at Knox City. He was a partner in the McCarty Davis Co. mens store here for several years around 1915 16.
Loren Mangrum 55 of Sherman died Tuesday in a Sherman hospital from an infection after kidney surgery. Funeral services were held in Sherman and burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Born July 21, 1908 in Whitewright, he was son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Mangrum. He worked with a motor freight line before it was sold and then served as agent for various trucking lines. Survivors include his wife Mary Emarine Taylor four sons two daughters a brother Millard Mangrum of Shreveport La two sisters Maude Birdsong of Lancaster Calif and Una Mae Mangrum of Thomasville N C and one grandchild.
Hotels and restaurants in the United States face a chef shortage as only about 4,000 of 550,000 hotel and restaurant cooks are first rate. The main cause is fewer European chefs emigrating to the United States, with many choosing to earn similar wages at home.

AFTRA's national board rejects wage offers from ABC CBS and NBC for Hollywood originated announcers. A Los Angeles contract breakdown could trigger a walkout with nationwide support, though a strike vote date was not set, possibly two weeks away. A strike might halt both TV and radio operations.
The Whitewright Young Farmers Chapter will meet at 7:30 Friday night at the school. President David Johnson invites all farmers in the community to attend. Charlie Spence will discuss fertilizer and Bill Bass will talk about rodent control.
Dallas police report the Tippit family's bank total reached 600,849 after counting more than 40 000 donations received since Patrolman Tippit was killed while questioning Lee Harvey Oswald. Mrs Tippit and her three children have avoided publicity as lawyers handle trust fund arrangements. Citizens worldwide sent contributions in varied amounts.
Grayson County jail saw 118 arrests during December with drunkenness drunken driving and lunacy heading the list. There were 24 drunkenness arrests 20 for driving while intoxicated and 13 for lunacy. Felony cases included two burglary six forgery one murder and one swindling over $50. The Sheriff's department processed 105 papers and collected $2420 in fines costs and fees during December.
Homer L. Ryon has been named service representative for the Whitewright subdistrict of Lone Star Gas Company. He has worked with Lone Star since 1947 in various gas distribution roles and lives in Whitewright. Ryon succeeds Walter Bunch and is active with the local fire department and Boy Scouts. He is married to Elsie Savile Sims of Tom Bean and they have four children.
Sherman attorney Joe Joiner 38 announced his bid for county attorney. A graduate of Sherman High School and Austin College, he holds a law degree from SMU and served as assistant county attorney for Grayson County in 1959. He pledges vigorous prosecution of major felonies and to improve delinquent tax collection and mortgage recovery. He is married with five children and active in First Methodist Church.
The Treasury Department rejected Rep. Wright Patman’s suggestion to pay interest on federal deposits and personal checking accounts. Patman argued banks hold $150 billion in “raw materials” earning interest but not paid to depositors. Congress banned demand-deposit interest in 1933, and current policy shows little appetite to revive it, with service charges also seen as prudent.
Stockholders of the First National Bank of Whitewright reelected the board of directors Kenneth Frisby Paul Stephens Jack Meador Philip Earnheart Sears Anderson C B Bryant III Kay Kimbell and R T Pennington at the annual meeting on January 14. The directors then elected Kenneth Frisby president R A Gillett vice president and cashier Peggy Wilkinson assistant cashier and reemployed Robert Doss as legal counsel. Other bank employees listed include Carol Marks Emaline Haston and Judy Durham.
Dean Martin announced his candidacy for reelection as Grayson County attorney in the Democratic Primary. Appointed in 1959 to fill an unexpired term, he cites 18 years of practice in Sherman, education from the University of Oklahoma and Jefferson Law School, and plans for vigorous, experienced law enforcement. He serves as elder at Travis St Church of Christ and is active in local and state bar associations and Kiwanis.
Rev. Frank N. Winfrey has assumed the pastorate at Central Christian Church in Whitewright with 9 A M services on Sundays. He also leads Whitesboro church services at 11 A M and will visit Whitewright Saturdays. A Fort Worth native, he is a Texas A&M graduate and Marine veteran and a senior student at Brite Divinity School.
President Johnson told 47 elder leaders that a Social Security medical care plan for the aged is practical fair and just and will be fought for in Congress. He said the nation should not force old people to lose dignity for care and stressed the program will become law. Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell separately applied for telephone patents on the same day in 1876.
