Cost of Living Leveling Off After 10 Month Rise
The Labor Department reports a ten month rise in living costs halted mid January. The consumer price index on January 15 remained 18 percent above January 15, 1946 and 212 percent above June 1920. Food prices fell, offsetting small gains in other goods and services. Egg prices dropped 10 percent, dairy 5 percent, fats and oils 212 percent, ending the run of price increases since 1946 amid the postwar wage price policy and steel strike settlement.

A Denison woman, Geraldine Walker, 1016 South Armstrong, was injured when a car plunged from the Lake Texoma embankment near the dam around 11 30 p m Tuesday. Driver Given 6 Months in Fatal Crash
Boyd Jones, driver of a Denison ambulance, was found guilty of negligent homicide in the second degree for a crash June 10, 1946, at King and Travis streets. He received a six month jail sentence in Grayson County Court. Ralph Jones, a farm laborer, died. C. R. Burns died days later. Testimonysaid Jones exceeded 30 mph and ran a red light. The jury included Frank G. Trau as foreman. Connecticut, the nutmeg state, is still the lair of the Yankee peddler.
