Other candidates include Dan LeDane, Continental Telephone Co. employee, retired Navy after 20 years, residing west of town with wife Faye and children Billy Andy Scott Danielle Cindi Fortner, a WHS senior, plus Martha Dickson born Bonham, living on Melody Drive with husband Merle and son Michael.
Paris North Lamar, a Class 2A District 15-2A champion, edged Whitewright 75-68 after Whitewright trimmed an 18-15 first quarter deficit. Whitewright’s top scorers were Steve Hodge 20 Gary Tillett 15 Walter Daniels 13 and Willie Ballard 14. North Lamar’s Scott Starks 30 and Ray Webb 20 led the 75 points. Whitewright drops to 2-2 and will play Coppell in bi districts at NTSU Coliseum February 22.
Clint Hennig a division manager at Community Public Service Whitewright is named chairman of the local Heart Fund Drive with volunteers starting the campaign during American Heart Month. Local volunteers include Susan Condron Patricia Holloway Nancy Holloway Claudia Holloway Edith May Holloway Jeanette Sessoms Veda Norwood Brenda Truksa Raynell Hennig Dick Capps Charles Truksa Emory Christian Hermon Philley Sam Montgomery Rod Earnheart Sally Cureton Peggy Partridge Beatrice Hunter. Cardiovascular disease is the No 1 killer and this disease claims more than 950 000 lives.
Grayson county farmers can complete a private applicator certification training on Wednesday Feb 23 at Whitewright elementary cafetorium starting 1 30 pm. The three hour program covers laws labels safety calibration and pest identification with Texas Agricultural Extension Service materials.
The Whitewright Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting at noon. The annual banquet is scheduled for April 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the grade school cafetorium with Barrett's Cafeteria of Van Alstyne catering. Reagan Brown, public relations director for Gov. Dolph Briscoe, will speak. New officers include Milton Simpson as president and Darla Hovell as vice president, with Anne Logan treasurer and Earline Rice secretary. Tickets go on sale in March at $5 each. The group discussed the local heart fund drive, industrial foundation efforts, and plans to attract new industries to Whitewright.
Dan LeDane announces a stated meeting of Whitewright Masonic Lodge No 167 at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The lodge will conduct regular business and hold practice in the Entered Apprentice degree.
