Lee Pritchard of Bells helped Texas A M livestock judging team outscore 17 rivals to win the Southwestern Intercollegiate event held with the Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock Show in Fort Worth. He ranked second high individual. Oklahoma State University placed second. Lee is an animal science major in the College of Agriculture.
The First Baptist Church of Whitewright hosts its annual youth banquet in the fellowship hall at 7 p.m. with Grand Company from Gainesville providing entertainment. Murrell L. Hollingsworth, formerly of Whitewright, received a 15 year sentence in Wichita Falls for the Jan. 7 armed robbery of the First National Bank of Saint Jo, with $2,100 recovered within an hour. He pleaded guilty without a trial and faces up to 25 years and a $10,000 fine.
Whitewright Tigers hold off Coppell 72-67 to capture Bi district title at NTSU coliseum in Denton. Willie Ballard 24 points and Walter Daniels 20 led the effort, as Coppell led 16-12 early before Whitewright surged to a 34-32 halftime edge and 50-47 after three quarters. They advance to face Sanger in Denton for a regional championship Friday with a possible Saturday final.
The Whitewright FFA chapter joins over 500,000 national members for National FFA Week in February 2026, honoring Agriculture's New Generation. President Carl McFatridge leads with sponsors Jack Roberts and Bob Darwin as shows span livestock projects toward Log Lake in mid April.
Eddie Anderson Jackie Jester and Gene Shaw of Whitewright will compete in the 1977 Southwest Championship Tractor Pull at Fort Worth March 11 12 13. Shaw drives a V-12 Allison modified with a V-9 International while Anderson runs an M Farmall 327 Chevy in open class. Purse totals 28600 dollars with trophies and cash prizes. Shaw farms wheat and milo and keeps cattle. Jester works as a conservation contractor, based in Whitewright. Eddie is a Texas Instruments technician and has three children. Jackie has one daughter and is married to Linda Wright.
Services were held for Henry O Lewis age 72 at Bethel Baptist church. The former Whitewright city judge died February 17 1977 in a Sherman hospital after retiring in July 1976. He was also a retired Continental Oil employee. Burial at Bethel Cemetery followed arrangements by Barnhart Funeral Home. He was survived by son Dan W Lewis of Carrollton daughter Mrs Charles Pierce Whitewright two sisters nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers included church Bible class members.
