Earle B. Mayfield United States Senator elect from Texas was summoned to a Texas justice court to answer disturbing the peace charges from a hotel lobby encounter with Fort Worth newspaper man Silliman Evans. Mayfield was released after brief questioning. Evans paid a fine for disturbing the peace.

The Norris amendment to end the old Congress after elections and move inauguration from March 4 to the third Monday in January was approved by the Senate 63 to 8. It goes to the House for approval, date uncertain. The measure, from the agricultural committee chaired by Norris, aims to change constitutional timing.

Sherman Feb 13 J H Hub White resigns as Grayson County farm superintendent effective March 12 to pursue other work. County Commissioners appoint Ab Sparks former County Commissioner and road superintendent as new farm superintendent. Sparks currently serves as assistant superintendent with related experience.
In Sherman on February 14 thirty two complaints charging vagrancy by gaming at a domino parlor were filed in Justice H D Cumby s court by County Attorney Hubert Bookout s department. Several pled guilty and paid fines plus costs totaling 17 85.

A J Dillon died Sunday morning after a short illness in Whitewright. Born in Kentucky in 1855, he lived in Trenton and Whitewright, married Mary Ella Turk in 1877 and had six children. Survived by his wife, three sons Kay and Claud Dillon and Marvin Dillon of Sherman, and three daughters Mrs D B Bane, plus four grandchildren. Funeral held Sunday at his residence with Rev. Isbell and Rev. Dickey, burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
An ex parte hearing in Waco investigated claims that Roy Mitchell’s confessions to five murders were obtained by torture. A Canadian witness said he heard allegations but could not name discussants. Officials denied using threats and stated Mitchell confessed with evidence presented. Two other parties in similar proceedings also denied knowledge.
Miss Carrie Vincent 20 daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Vincent of Tom Bean died in Carlsbad New Mexico where she sought health treatment. Relatives received word at Tom Bean and the body will be shipped there for interment.
The Texas Senate unanimously passed the Melson House bill providing a three million emergency appropriation for public schools this school year. An amendment bars any use of funds to raise teacher salaries. The chamber also backs measures to repeal free textbooks and resists raising terms for state and county officers.
Governor Neff signed and filed the bill creating a land grant co-educational college in West Texas. The Texas Technological College will receive 1 002 000 dollars in its original appropriation with 150 000 dollars for a site to be chosen by a locating board by September 1. The board includes S B Cowell, S M Marrs, R E Vinson, F M Brally, and W B Bizzell. The college will have its own president and board of regents.
