Paris Texas February 8 farmers who stockpiled flour in anticipation of higher prices are selling it back to the grocers who sold it to them at the original price. One farmer returned 200 pounds from last November amid reports of widespread prewar hoarding and a sizable inventory locally.
The Food Administrator prepared a weekly outline for optional wheatless or meatless meals. Sunday includes breakfast meatless and supper wheatless, Monday features breakfast wheatless and meatless, lunch wheatless, Tuesday adds breakfast meatless lunch meatless supper meatless and wheatless, Wednesday begins breakfast wheat.
The schedule lists meals with meatless breakfasts all week and wheatless suppers. Noonday meals on Sunday Thursday and Friday are noted as having the lid off in the Administration's timetable.
Mrs. E. P. Montgomery traveled to San Antonio to see her son Crawford who is training at Camp Travis. He is in fine health and pleased with his current work.
Mrs. W. B. Hestand traveled to Wichita Falls last Saturday to visit Mr. Hes tand who is currently stationed there collecting income taxes for the government. Miss Eva Stillwell of Wesley College Greenville spent the weekend with relatives here.
Provost Marshal General Crozier says boards largely favor raising the age limit with 19 and 35 most cited though some want 40 or 45. He estimates 1,589,888 single men could be available up to age 45, with 4,257,516 total qualified unmarried men open for call if 18 to 45 is adopted.
The Grayson County Baptists announce a two month enlistment drive from March 1 to April 30. About seventy five speakers are expected to participate, with pastors deacons and members from various ministries urged to join in evangelism education benevolence and loyalty to the church and denomination. A church list with dates will be sent later.
Washington February 12. The loss of about 30 eggs per hen sold from farms before May 1 would reduce the nation s food supply. Eggs come from weeds and waste and are a net gain in food. The hen remains good meat after laying. Save The Hens is a USDA message broadcast through notices posters and county agents, mainly in southern poultry regions.
Mrs. Jack McMillin and her young daughter traveled to Greenville at the start of the week to visit her father. She plans to move on to Brownwood once her husband secures a house, as Mr. McMillin works as a state bank examiner with headquarters in Brownwood.
Ten months of the war have cost the United States about 7.1 billion dollars at a rate of 710 million per month. More than half, 4.121 billion, has been loans to allies, leaving about 3 billion for U S war outlays. The monthly toll grows by 100 million, with two months left in the first year likely raising the total near 10 billion.
State Administrator Peden orders county admins to require residents with flour or sugar in excess of thirty days needs to return excess to the original grocer. Grocers must limit sales to thirty days and, for flour purchases, require equal weight of other specified items delivered at the same time. Potatoes and beans cannot substitute for flour. If unclear, consult the grocer.
A Brest Litovsk dated dispatch from Amsterdam reports Russia has ended the state of war with Germany Austria Hungary Turkey and Bulgaria and ordered demobilization of all Russian forces on every front while desisting from signing a formal peace treaty.
Miss Emma Gordon went to Dallas to assist Mrs A D McGaughey in selecting and buying her spring stock of millinery. Mrs McGaughey went down later in the week and will not return until next week.
Mrs. J. F. Lilley Miss Monta Badgett and Horace Thompson travel to Dallas this week to purchase spring stock for the J F Lilley dry goods store improving inventory and selections for the local shop.
J. B. Dickson reports South Carolina’s prosperity during a month visiting relatives, noting improved farming and land use. He traveled via Austin and Smithville visiting daughters and observed stronger agricultural yields than in his own region. Dr. J. B. Hall, new to Whitewright, will move with his family after school term. he led Hunt county dentistry and will practice locally.
S. A. Venable departed Monday for Mississippi to spend several weeks in the interest of the company with which he is affiliated.
Mr and Mrs T H Sears and Mr and Mrs Byron Sears motored to Sherman Sunday to spend the day with Claude Sears and family. Miss Gladys Sears visiting from Denton for the gathering is recovering from mumps.
