Head were surprised Friday at home by children including Dick Gibson Amy of Howe Jack Hicks Carmen of Sherman and Orville Head of Tom Bean to celebrate their 39th anniversary. Other notes include church groups sharing Christmas parties, gifts, and a Christmas Eve drawing for more than $200 in gift certificates at Dairy Queen Warehouse on Grand Street.

Seven Die in One-Car Crash South of Whitewright
Seven Sherman residents die in a one car crash on State Highway 160 south of Whitewright. Five members of one family perished. others were friends riding with them. The vehicle left the road, rolled over several times, struck a bridge wing, and plunged into a creek bed near Bethel Baptist church. Four died at the scene. three died en route to Sherman hospital. The Whitewright Tigers won their 13th straight game 72-38 over Tom Bean as the Tigers repeated strong scoring. Terry Holt led Whitewright girls with 18 points and Gina Todd added 15. Whitewright to Close Thursday Christmas observance
Whitewright city hall post office banks and other businesses will be closed Thursday for the Christmas holiday. Offices and stores reopen Friday with normal hours. Firemen and officers will be available if needed. Schools dismissed last Friday for Christmas New Year holidays and will resume classes January 5.
