Advent Message for Rotarians in Whitewright

The Rev. Kirby Edwards urged Rotarians to slow down during Advent and focus on important values such as friendship health and citizenship. He stressed caring for loved ones and thanking God for the country while encouraging action rather than neglect. Club meetings are moved to Tuesday noon on Christmas Eve and New Year Eve with Friday sessions resuming January 7.

Fidelis Class Social at First Baptist Church

The Fidelis Sunday school class met December 16 for a Christmas social and dinner at the First Baptist Church. Mrs. C. J. Meador gave the invocation as decoratin g and serving were handled by Mrs. Joe Miller and Mrs. Clifford Jarvis. Mrs. Alta Thornhill opened the meeting and welcomed visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Dwain Davis presented the Christmas devotional with carols sung by Mrs. Homer Gentry and readings from Luke. A gift exchange followed. Visitors included Miss Lillian Neathery Miss Mardell Pumphrey Mrs. Fay Vestal and Mr. and Mrs. Davis. Members listed include many with multiple Mrs. Meador Thornhill Gentry Van Robinson Darwin Lay Opal Bandy Jarvis Miller Grider Tom Brown Corda Skaggs Opal Alexander Velma Sadler Dillon Ina Hoyt Wallace and Mary Lou Ayres.

Troy Adams Joins Local Police Force

Whitewright Chief Leroy DuQuette announced Troy Adams has joined the force as a patrolman for 32 hours weekly, replacing resigning Mike Parker. Adams, from Crockett via Tom Bean, is a former Air Force veteran with nine years as a Grayson County criminal investigator and holds a degree from Grayson County College plus an advanced certificate from the Texas Law Enforcement Commission. He aims to serve the area he knows and loves. The piece also notes a Whitewright PTA Christmas program at the grade school cafetorium directed by Janis Johnson and Barbara Hughes with Teddy Bears, snowflakes, songs, and Rudolph. attendees praised the program as one of the best.

Final Christmas Drawing Set For Friday At 2 P M

The final Chamber of Commerce Christmas drawing will be held downtown Whitewright Friday at 2 p.m. Residents are urged to attend and buy tickets signed for a chance at gifts from local merchants. Grover Brown day drew crowds as his name appeared at least 10 times, and he could choose prizes. Special thanks to Butch Morgan Floyd Flowers Milton Simpson and John Biggerstaff for conducting the drawings.
