Dick Capps notes a school board meeting on Monday, Dec. 27, with a Dec. 21 session rescheduled for a district basketball game. Community notices include decorations, tax office hours, bank closures, a USDA survey on spending, local visits, and a peanut producers meeting in Sherman.
Christmas spirit fills Gingerbread Pre School Whitewright as students answer why Santa uses reindeer and describe his North Pole home. Responses show playful beliefs about Santa’s vehicle chimney house colors and features with several children offering varying explanations.
Tips from the postmaster urge careful mailing of film during Christmas. Use sturdy envelopes with proper ZIP codes and legible addresses. Include return address, add sender name on tape, and mark envelopes hand cancel to reduce losses in mail processing.
The Whitewright Community club gathered Thursday in Fireman's Hall for a Christmas luncheon and gift exchange. President Edith Grider presided. Kathleen Hatfield gave the invocation. Esther West distributed gifts. Sixteen members attended. meals included turkey, ham, and trimmings. food was sent to members unable to attend.
The Whitewright Chamber of Commerce held a noon meeting at Fireman's Hall to discuss downtown Christmas lights. The group earmarked 650 for next year, formed a committee, and thanked volunteers for parade success. Winners of parade trophies and details of drawings and a library grant were noted along with upcoming events and Santa letters.
The Bethel WMU held a Christmas salad supper at Jessie Williams residence with 15 members present. A devotion by Mrs. Williams read the Christmas story from Luke, followed by a poem about the spirit of Christmas and group carol singing. Mrs. Johnnie England led the closing prayer.
The Annual Vestal and Smith reunion was held December 4 at the Reddy Room of Community Public Service in Whitewright. Relatives traveled from Missouri Texas and Oklahoma. About 40 attended the dinner cooked by Mrs. Ethel Green. It was voted to hold the reunion December 3.
Whitewright Lodge No. 167 will hold two meetings next week. The first at 7:30 p.m. Monday December 20 includes a Fellowcrafts degree proficiency exam and a Christmas gifts drive for the Masonic Home and School in Fort Worth with Rev Bill Grisham as speaker. A second called meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday December 21 will confer the Masters degree. Members and neighboring lodges are urged to attend both sessions.
Freddie Whipple, paralyzed in a 1970 Dallas crash, lives for CB radio calling himself the Hitchhiker. He praises the hobby for connection and entertainment, sharing club duties with wife Linda in the Tri angle CB Club at Tom Bean. They raise funds via benefits and stress responsible use, while Freddie notes delays from dead keys and occasional inappropriate chatter, yet cherishes late night chats and helping travelers.
