Rail Freight Rate Increase Granted In East and West
The Interstate Commerce Commission authorized emergency railroad freight rate increases of 7 percent in the East and 5 percent in the West. A separate 7 percent rise proposed by Southern carriers is under review and a hearing is set for January 7. The five percent Western increase is a reduced portion of the requested rise. The order allows railroads to implement the increases on five days notice, with projected annual extra revenue of 402.6 million dollars.

Railroad Freight Increases Extend to Pocahontas Territory
The 7 percent freight increase covering East of the Mississippi and north of the Ohio and Potomac Rivers also expands to Pocahontas territory. A 5 percent advance on interterritorial freights between Eastern Western and Southern zones was approved to offset wage hikes in the railroad industry effective November 1.
