Christmas Events Fill Bonham Schedule Across City

Community groups announce multiple events in Bonham including Living Christmas Tree performances at 1771 Bonham Street December 12 to 17 at 8 pm with tickets for each night and a community tree lighting. Whitewright Tigers win 16-A title and claim six top district honors with Charley Sessoms named Coach of the Year. Ricky D Rice earns Most Valuable Offensive and Defensive Lineman, Steve Hodge MV Offensive Back, Ricky A Rice MV Defensive Linebacker. Whitewright PTO Christmas program and other campus notices

The Whitewright Parent Teacher Organization will present its annual Christmas program December 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the grade school cafetorium with Kindergarten through third grade led by Mrs. Janis Johnson and Mrs. Cynthia Hughes. A short business meeting follows. Also noted are WMU Week of Prayer events at Bethel Baptist Church, plans for a December 7 Christmas salad supper, and community reminders including a sunshine box for recovery and a memorial to program participants.

Services were held Friday at Earnheart Funeral Chapel for H M DeBerry 94 retired Whitewright farmer who died Wednesday Dec 1 1976 in the Whitewright Nursing home The Rev Bob Bryan pastor of the First United Methodist church conducted the services Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery A native of Frankfort Ky he was a son of the late Mr and Mrs Columbus DeBerry and married Nora Benson on Dec 22 1909 at Trenton He was a member of the First United Methodist church Surviving are his sons Robert and Clifton DeBerry both of Whitewright and Jesse De Berry of Richland Wash daughters Mrs Grady Haliburton of Slayton and Mrs Tom Rayburn of Bonham nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren

Whitewright Council Applies For New Grant

The Whitewright City Council met in a regular session Tuesday with Mayor Dick Walker presiding. The council completed the ECA grant application for 493000 and sent it to Austin. If approved the funds would build a new city hall complex. The council also approved applying for a 115000 Community Block Grant for housing rehabilitation. The meeting adjourned after approving current bills.

Mrs Claud McMillan Rites Held for 90 Yearold Woman

Services were held December 6 1976 for Mrs Claud McMillan 90 who died December 4 1976 in Earnheart Funeral chapel with burial in Forest Park cemetery at Greenville. Born February 19 1886 in Henderson she married Claud McMillan April 5 1905 in Fort Worth. She was a member of a church in Whitewright. Survivors include a daughter Mrs Earl Blanton of Whitewright and a granddaughter.

Rotary Speaker Favors New Kennedy Probe

Mrs. Bill McFatridge spoke to the Whitewright Rotary about reopening the Kennedy assassination investigation. She urged a new study to settle the matter. Rotarian Chuck Wilson released the nominating report. Dick Capps is president-elect, Philip Earnheart secretary-elect, Charles Truksa treasurer-elect, and directors-elect are Herman Philly, Aubrey McAlister, and Bill Talley.

Triangle CB Club Sets Yule Party

The Triangle CB radio club met December 4 at the Tom Bean Sale barn. Mike Covington was elected vice president and Robert Donihoe joined the board replacing T.J. Lucas. Membership capped at 35 families with a waiting list. Christmas dinner set for December 11 at 7:30. Each family brings a dish and a gift for each child. Two Bonham visitors discussed CB break plans. details in January. Next meeting January 8. Barry Stevens received the Most Courteous CBer of the Month Award.
