Whitewright residents visit relatives in Dallas Bonham and Sherman. A Mayflower style Christmas program is planned with pupils of Lucian Andrews and a toy-building project by sixth and seventh graders. Local Scout event and Legion post dinner mark community activities for December.
Calhoun H. Vestal, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rollie C. Vestal, who recently enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, has finished training at the Marine Corps Base San Diego and is assigned to duty at the Marine Barracks Navy Yard Pearl Harbor Hawaii. He formerly attended local high school and graduated last May. Postmaster Tom J. Lilley announced the news in Idabel Oklahoma. Carl May accompanied Mrs. May home after visiting her niece, Mrs. Frank Powell, Sunday.
The three Baptist Missionary Society circles met Monday afternoon. North Circle gathered at 3 with Mrs. Luther Gordon for Bible study. West Circle met at 2:30 with Mrs. Percy Darwin for Bible study. East Circle also at 2:30 with Mrs. W. J. Doss for mission study.
Mrs H G Rountree hosted a Sunday school class gather at her home on Tuesday evening. Attendees played games and contests then made candy and popped corn. Present were Misses Sarah Everheart Wade Sears Mona Sullivan Opal Scott Aleta B Head Eliabeth Waggoner and Albert Lea Jackson and Billy Daniels.
Mrs Percy Darwin hosted the Needlecraft Club at her home on Wednesday afternoon. After social time, gifts were exchanged and December’s gift went to Mrs Mac Pierson. Mrs Albert Reeves helped serve refreshments with a Christmas theme. The club will meet December 21 with Mrs Carlton Johnson.
Miss Elizabeth Waggoner hosted the Whitewright Bridge Club at her home on Tuesday afternoon. Frances Pope won high score and Mrs. Paul Ryan took second. Mrs. Allen T. Short attended as a guest. Marshmallow pudding and coffee were served and presents from the club Christmas tree were given. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Ryon.
The Mozart Music Club met at Martha Vestal's home with a post meeting punch and cake and gifts from the Christmas tree for listed members. The Rotary Club hosted wives at First Baptist Church with a free, unstructured dinner, followed by a theater outing to see Stablemates starring Wallace Beery and Mickey Rooney.
The Kentuckytown Home Demonstration Club met at Mrs. Carl Holland’s home. They scheduled a Christmas tree for December 16 at Mrs. John Price’s home with each member inviting her family. A brief business session elected officers: John Tramel president, John Price vice president, Carl Holland secretary treasurer, and B. prior.
M Dean council delegate and reporter and Mrs C M Fulton alternate addressed the group. Those present were Mrs J E Tramel, Mrs John Price, Mrs B M Dean, Mrs John Neil, Mrs C M Fulton, Mrs Carl Holland, plus Mrs J A Moore of Pilot Grove as visitor and guest of Mrs Carl Holland.
William H. Harrison son of Sherman and Whitewright families married Dorothy Farrar daughter of Nobility residents at 6 p m Sunday in the home of Rev. J L Truett with the officiating minister present only a few friends. Mrs Harrison attended Texas State College for Women and he is a 1936 Whitewright graduate employed at Morgan Food Store. The couple, living with Mr and Mrs Leland May, are well known to Whitewright’s younger set and have received many congratulations.
Mrs G W Furgerson hosted a miscella neous shower at her Nobility area home for Miss Dorothy Farrar and the coming marriage to Mr William Howard Harrison of Whitewright. Guests registered for red and white wedding bell favors and played games by the fireside led by Fay Richardson Mildred Ayers and Mrs W T Farrar.
Guests at a social event solved jig-saw puzzles that formed pictures of brides. Miss Farrar completed her puzzle first and was escorted to a bed piled with gifts. After she thanked each guest in her graceful manner, everyone regrouped for refreshments of iced fruit punch chicken salad sandwiches and cocoanut cookies.
Joe Burton, minister, invites all to Bible study at 10 a m and Wednesday at 7 p m. Preaching services at 11 a m and 6 30 p m with the evening topic Believing a Lie. Cordial invitation to attend.
The White Gift service titled The Gift Magnificent will be presented at Central Christian Church on Sunday December 18 with two performances at 7 and 8 p m. The annual program has long been a popular Christmas event in Whitewright and offers two showings to accommodate all who wish to attend.
Sunday school at 10 a m and preaching at 11 a m. Sunday evening at 6 o'clock the Christmas program will be given with special musical numbers in addition to the children’s program. This is our regular Christmas program and will last about one hour.
Joe M. Connally pastor invites who desire may attend the White Gifts program at Central Christian Church.
First Baptist Church outlines Sunday activities with Sunday school at 10 a m morning worship at 10 55 and B T U at 6 p m There is no evening service due to the Christmas program at Central Christian Church Members urged to attend this service signed by pastor L O Evans.
Dr. B Wrenn Webb leads Sunday school at 10 a m followed by 11 a m worship in The Divine Brotherhood fourth of a series and the Junior Church. No evening service. Congregation to join Central Christian Church for White Christmas observance.
