Dallas man tied to Whitewright burglaries

Richard E. Strahand of Dallas is arrested in Richardson and linked to Whitewright burglaries at Whitewright High School Williams Grocery and Bob Dunlap’s Malt Shop last week. Cash, a television set, coins, and a pistol were stolen. total losses amount to a few hundred dollars.

Railroads Pay Texas Taxes Support Schools In Grayson County

Texas railroads paid nearly 11 million dollars statewide in property and right of way taxes with Grayson County receiving a share of about one tenth. The Texas Railroad Association notes half the taxes fund schools while city county and road funds also gain. An income tax school will be held December 15 at 2 pm and 7 am in Sherman courthouse assembly room with Tack Jenkins instructing. 1970 Farm Income Tax guides will be available.

Whitewright approves 25 percent gas rate increase

Whitewright City Council voted 3 to 1 to raise natural gas rates by 25 percent after a 2 1/2 hour discussion. Virgil Stroup of Lone Star cited need for a fair return on investment. The plan boosts average bills by 180 to 200 cents monthly.

Whitewright hoops struggles amid Whitesboro tournament

Whitewright basketball squads show improvement but keep losing more games. Girls fall to Collinsville 32-28 Lake Dallas 31-25 Wolfe City 21-? Howe 35-59 in tourney play. Boys beat Collinsville 37-32 then lost to Decatur 43-34 in semis. Wolfe City and Howe wins noted. tournament runs Thursday to Saturday with eight boys and eight girls teams.

Warriors advance to semi finals in district football

The Honey Grove Warriors defeated DeLeon 27-6 to reach the high school football semifinals. They face Sonora next, with the game set for Friday in Stephenville, after trailing 6-0 at halftime before erupting for three unanswered touchdowns. Honey Grove leads District 6-A, which includes Whitewright.

Whitewright Christmas Lighting Contest Prizes Announced

Contest donors announced prize amounts for this year. Public Service donates 15 dollars for best residential lighting and Chamber of Commerce 10 dollars for best business lighting. Lions Rotary and Friday Literary Club add seven fifty, seven fifty, and five dollars respectively. Second and third prizes, decor awards, and judge lineup from Tom Bean. They tour Whitewright Friday night Dec 19 at 7.

Whitewright Lions Club to Hold Turkey Shoot Benefit

The Whitewright Lions Club schedules a turkey shoot on Saturday December 20 at noon behind Whitewright High School. Two classes skeet and target shooting. no limit on turkeys per shooter. Shells provided by the club. Earlier the club held its first shoot with winners Sammy Wilkerson Ray Jones Odell Caraway Bob Dunlap Slats Lucas and Jim Walker. Entry fee is $1.
