Local social notes report numerous visits and weekend gatherings. Names include England Truett Gillespie Newman Stedham Bass Short Inter Wallace Cunningham May Anderson Hall Reed Edwards Turner Williams Blanks Robnett Ashinhurst Keck Canafax in Sherman, Canton, Dallas, Fort Worth and Ada.
Austin officers reported a string of penalties from the Parks and Wildlife Department. A man paid 200 dollars for hunting antelope without a permit and another for seining crappie. Fines totaled 12 922 82 dollars as 107 fishing license violations and numerous hunting infractions were recorded.
U S farmers spent nearly 40 billion dollars in 1963 for business outlays and home consumption. Farm production expenses including labor totaled over 29 billion, up from wartime and prewar levels. The Agriculture Department says unfolding farm production gains are expected to continue.
Funeral services for E Morton Badgett 65 who died of lung cancer at a Sherman hospital were held at 2 p m Tuesday in Earnheart chapel. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Surviving are his wife a son a daughter a sister and a brother plus two grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 2 p m Wednesday in Earn Heart chapel for Alford Thomas Rouse 55 who died December 7 in the Veterans Hospital Bonham Theervice was led by Rev G E Bailey and Rev George Steele Pallbearers were Kenneth Jones Alva Blackerby Bob Walker Bill Johnson David Rogers and James Henry Rouse was born November 15 1909 near Whitewright the son of Mr and Mrs Andy Rouse He was a World War II veteran and retired from the Army as a first sergeant in 1958 Surviving are a sister Mrs Clifford Jones of Whitewright five step sisters four step brothers and several nieces and nephews
Funeral services were held Monday in Morgan City Louisiana for Mrs. James A. Reeves 30 of Nederland Texas who died of cancer in a Nederland hospital. She was born 1934 in Burwick Louisiana the daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Bergeron. She married James A. Reeves in 1956 and is survived by her husband two sons Bryan James and Brent David two daughters Rebekah Lynn and Brenda Elaine her parents and one sister. Several Reeves relatives attended from Whitewright McKinney Garland Dallas and New Orleans with Mrs John L Reeves spending a few days in Nederland.
Grayson County cotton farmers join a nationwide referendum on the 1965 marketing quota. Whitewright High School joins 1700 Texas schools training students to prepare income tax returns. Principal David Johnson notes 40 students will receive several hours of instruction in February, with 235000 Texas students overall receiving the training. The IRS supplied free materials and Harold McDaniel will teach. Over six years about 180 Whitewright students have completed the course.
Texas will hold an official meeting of 25 electors on December 14 to cast votes for president and vice president. The November 20 canvas shows Lyndon Johnson and Hubert Humphrey with 1 663 185 votes in Texas and the Republican ticket with 958 566. The Texas electoral votes will be sent to Washington for counting at the January 4 joint session of Congress.
Mrs Nancy Edwards sister of Mrs Grover Hardcastle of Whitewright died December 6 and was buried December 8 in Compton California. She lived in Lakewood California and is survived by two brothers and three sisters.
Charley T. Dickenson of Waco died in a local hospital last Monday at age 70. He is buried at Waco Memorial Park Cemetery. Born in Melissa, Collin County, he was brother to Mrs. John Vestal of Whitewright and survived by his wife three sons and three brothers all listed as J. E. Dickenson E. R. Dickenson and S. R. Dickenson of Melissa.
Americans spend over 1.5 billion dollars this year on feeding clothing and pampering dogs cats birds tropical fish and other pets. Dog and cat food sales reached 655 million while nonfood pet items total 800 million. the pet industry shows strong growth with diverse products from costumes to cosmetics and nail polishes for pets.

The letter outlines the book’s long official title, its intended misuse as soil work equipment, and advises school officials to order copies for libraries while noting pages with child care guidance and age appropriateness.
The annual Christmas lighting contest by the Friday Literary Club will be judged on December 20 or later. Residents outside city limits may call Mrs. Clint Hennig before then to participate. Three prizes total. first prize $10 from Public Service Co. second $7.50 from the Rotary Club and third $5 from the Friday Literary Club.

Governor Connally proclaims Sunday December 13 as Safety Sunday in Texas to urge drivers to observe moral responsibility and reduce traffic injuries. TSA President Quincy V. Tuma notes the aim is to focus attention on accident prevention during the Christmas season. The drive reports 2,729 deaths and 161,543 injuries on Texas roads in 1963 and outlines a statewide holiday safety campaign.
Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman notes 1963 64 farm exports valued at 6.1 billion dollars produced by about 870 000 farm workers. He says the income supports more farm and non farm spending and creates additional jobs and incomes.
The Whitewright Tigers defeated St. Jo 22 to 6 at Gainesville to finish 12 straight wins and claim the Class B regional championship. Freshman Chuckie Watkins had 65 rushing yards, Joe Hennig 125 yards on 18 carries with a 62 yard run, and Curtis Tillet 92 receiving yards on two TD passes to Don Albaugh. Whitewright had 14 first downs and 272 rushing yards while St. Jo managed 110 rushing yards and 138 passing yards.
The Labor Department reports unemployment at 5.0 percent for November, down from 5.2 percent in October. The number of unemployed rises by 100,000 to 3.4 million, the lowest November level since 1957, while total employment falls to 70.8 million, a typical November drop.

The First National Bank of Whitewright board approves a 20 per cent dividend for shareholders and an employee retirement and insurance program effective December 1. Plan pays a percentage of salaries to officers and employees at age 65 with life pensions guaranteed for at least 10 years, with the bank covering total costs. Trustees are Jack Meador Philip Earnheart and Kenneth Frisby.
Four Whitewright residents were hospitalized in Sherman Community Hospital after a collision on U. S. 69 in Whitewright. A 1956 car driven by 80 year old Caro Maxey struck a 1963 car driven by 56 year old James Roscoe Yeary of Bells. Passengers in the Maxey car included Mercie Maxey 77 with a fractured leg and foot Bill Blanton 72 with a fractured pelvis Venda Hamilton 65 with a fractured arm and ribs Nettie Blanton minor injuries. Rochester Jones was uninjured. Yeary was treated at the Geers Clinic and later admitted. Maxey was treated and released.
A Monday night fire at the Walker Furniture and Rug Store on Main and Third in Bonham caused about 25000 dollars in damages. Fire Chief James Pratt said the blaze began about 9 45 p m and was under control by midnight with six hoses used to protect nearby Elkins Grocery. A Randolph youth was fined 20 dollars for damaging a hose and paid 40 dollars to replace a hose coupling. the owner Joe Walker said he had insurance.
