Bailey Rejects Consolidation With Leonard School

AUSTIN The January draft quota for Texas is 229 men, down from 280 in December, part of a national call for 5,400 Army inductees. Pre-induction physicals and mental exams will cover about 3,370 men in January, with local boards already assigned quotas. Most selections target volunteers under 26 and nonvolunteers ages 19 to 25, about 22 years old. No one maintaining a bona fide family relationship will be drafted. All males must register on or shortly after their 18th birthday.

Deaths Mrs Willie King McKinney 79 Dallas
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Willie King McKinney 79 of Dallas at Barnheart chapel with Rev. Dale Gore officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. She died Friday at her Dallas home. Born January 15 1885 in Ida west of Whitewright she was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert H King. She married James A McKinney in Whitewright on November 18 1908. Survivors include son James King McKinney of Dallas brother Robert H King Jr of Snyder and three sisters Loubel Phillips J E Christian of Whitewright and E R Johnson of Fort Worth.

Funeral services for Harry E. Farrow age 53 were held at Mullican Little Funeral Home at 2 p m Friday with Bob Coburn and Rev. Raymond Hall officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. He died December 9 at his Savoy home. Born February 11 1911 near Ely Whitewright he married Margie Miller September 17 1932. He belonged to Whitewright Majontic Lodge Grayson County Sheriff's Posse Texoma Quarterhorse Association and Church of Christ. He was a Perrin AFB foreman. Survivors include his wife two brothers Ray Farrow of Ector and W T Farrow of Whitewright three sisters Mrs Jim Woodson Mrs P A Jones of Tom Bean and Mrs Charlie Caldwell of Sherman.

Denison Sets Jan 9 for Local Liquor Election
Grayson County Commissioners Court fixed January 9 as the Denison local option election date on alcoholic beverages. The Denison Council on Alcoholic Problems submitted a petition with 1519 signatures, 1334 required, to end liquor sales. Denison has never voted dry in its 92 year history, last close in 1960 when it went wet by 70 votes.
