Texas adopts sweeping traffic law changes across state
The Texas Legislature enacts new traffic rules set to take effect by September 1 including an implied consent breath test law, right of way rules at intersections, slower vehicles in right lanes, and a 12 month motor vehicle inspection cycle with higher fees. Also limits on tire studs and speed contests in private lots, with an officer accident report change effective January 1, 1970. district contests noted in Sherman with several contestants.

Court approves library books purchase and staff motions in Grayson County
Grayson County Commissioners Court met Tuesday and approved spending 674.21 to buy books for the County Law Library. The court authorized the County Attorney and a judge to attend the Annual Attorney General's Conference in Austin starting Sep 25. The County Attorney and a District Clerk's office will hire V O E students at 1 per hour. Expenses for tax rolls binding and travel were approved. The court plans a 1969 Whitewright Tiger Football section in next week’s Sun. It also terminated Charles Hughes and Mary Lou Crockett as staff effective Aug 31 due to depleted funds and workload.

Whitewright ISD Hires Science Teacher and Hikes Tax Rate
The Whitewright Independent School District board hired John Dickey to teach science and mathematics at the high school for the upcoming year. A 10 cent per $100 valuation tax increase was approved, lifting the district rate to 1.75 to cover new expenses. The board also approved the 1969 1970 budget, hired Sheram and Morgan for auditing, and accepted bids for food and supplies including Sinclair gasoline Lilly Creamery Oak Farm Dairies and Texas Scenic Company. Lunch price set at 40 cents for 1969 70 with school starting Tuesday September 2.

Directors of the Whitewright United Fund approve the 1969 70 budget totaling 2260 dollars and set Monday September 8 as the campaign kickoff date. New wheat varieties may lift farm yields in Texas tests
Texas Research Foundation Renner tests show 22 wheat varieties averaging 67.7 bushels per acre with Agent leading at 86. Other strong performers include Caddo Knox 62 and Improved Triumph. Renner rotation studies show 37 bushels per acre, versus 24 with unfertilized wheat and 12 in unfertilized rotation. Leaf rust control using Zineb mixes boosted Sturdy and Knox 62 yields. cost per treatment was $2.49 an acre with aerial spraying still being explored.
