Local notes describe residents visiting friends in Slaton Sulphur Springs Denison Durant and Jacksonville. Purchases include George Hight buying the Palace Theatre building and Lem Tittsworth selling bargain second hand furniture. Weddings and family events are noted along with cotton ginning prizes and railroad news.
Texas poultry experts warn hot weather causes major egg losses. F Z Beanblossom recommends collecting eggs at least three times daily, cooling quickly, and storing in wire baskets at 32 to 60 degrees with 85 to 90 percent humidity. Odor sources should be avoided.
The Texas Forest Service reported a forest fire between Shepherd and Coldspring sent flames up to 100 feet in the air and burned a Black woman to passing while her father was also hurt. K B Ivie named S J Blanks as the driver who fled on Highway 150. Firefighters called it the worst blaze Ivie had seen, with pilots noting heavy smoke. The incident occurred during a period of high danger in Grayson and San Jacinto counties.
Thirty fires raged in the Woodville district and Forest Service personnel said the situation was apparently getting rough. They asserted the fire must be of incendiary origin.
Health note warns dehydration impairs red blood cell function and oxygen transport. Texas citation directs W M Pepper and others to appear by Sept 20 1948 in Gray son County District Court, case No 56607, filed July 1 1948, with N C Davis as plaintiff and Pepper et al as defendants over a March 1 1948 land ownership dispute.
In Denison Grayson County Texas a parcel in Belmont Addition Lot numbers 132 133 and 134 is described with record references. The plaintiff asserts peaceful continuous adverse possession under Texas law for more than three five ten and twenty five years and prays for judgment for title and possession. Issued August 4 1948.
