Grayson College Alumni Hold Tenth Reunion in Whitewright
Ex-students of Grayson College gathered in Whitewright for the tenth annual reunion. Miss Gladys Ray was elected president, Kay Kimbell vice president, and J. B. Hamilton and Mrs. R. E. Hickman re elected treasurer and secretary. The principal address was by J. N. Russell of Hico. Attendance was down due to extreme heat, but many former students from Dallas Sherman and other towns enjoyed renewing acquaintances after more than fifty years.

Boy Hanged in Own Show Ends in Tragic Death
In New Bedford Massachusetts nine year old Alton E Sowle Jr tied a curtain strip to a tree branch and hanged himself while a playmate watched. After lowering himself he remained motionless and died despite witnesses alarm. Police reported the self inflicted death with no sign of foul play.

Forty-Two Bales of Cotton Ginned at White Wright
White Wright gins reported 42 bales of cotton received by Wednesday night. Last year at this date only two bales had been ginned. First bale arrived August 10 this year after the August 19, 1947 start. Cotton brought 31 cents a pound and 65 dollars a ton for cotton seed.

W. W. Gunn of the Grayson County Agricultural Adjustment Administration warns farmers that Tuesday Aug 31 is the final date to sign up for all risk wheat insurance offered by the Federal Government. Grayson County is among eligible Texas counties this year. The policy costs very little starting at eight tenths of a bushel per acre with discounts explained by the county agent. Government To Aid Restoration Of Wildlife Areas
The government will fund nearly 11 million dollars for wildlife restoration in 1949. States must provide 25 percent of project costs to qualify for federal grants, financed by an 11 percent excise tax on sporting arms and ammunition. Grants vary by state from 53 thousand to over 500 thousand dollars, with Michigan and Texas receiving the largest amounts.

Landlord Reinstates Services After 209 Days Jail
Walter Fliss, a 52 year old landlord, defied rent control rules and cut heat water garbage and janitor service to 12 flats. A federal court ordered restoration of services and he was jailed for 209 days before compliance.

Will Celebrate 90th Birthday Uncle Joe Riddle
Joe Riddle known as Uncle Joe will celebrate his 90th birthday at his East Whitewright home with an open house from 2 to 6 p m Monday. Born August 30 1858 in Tennessee he came to Texas as a child. He married Hettie Watson in 1896 and has three living children Mollie Howard Will Turner and Ernest Riddle, nineteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is in good health and walks to town daily. He attends the Baptist Church.

Texas Highway Commission awarded the grading and drainage contract for the Whitewright Ida Sherman FM 697 to W S Crawford Company of Dallas for 125 719, about 17 000 under estimate.
