Woodruff joins CPS Staff in customer service role

Stan Woodruff formerly of Trenton has joined Community Public Service as a customer service representative. He succeeds Butch Morgan and follows Danny Berend’s transfer to Ft Worth. Woodruff, a 1973 East Texas State University graduate, will handle customer contacts and assist in designing heating and cooling programs and energy efficiency initiatives. He plans to move to Whites Wright and enjoys baseball among sports.

Golden Years Topic At Rotary Club Meet

Mrs. Bill Fry outlined aging services offered by the Texas Department of Public Welfare in Grayson County at a Rotary luncheon. She explained the shift to a service role aimed at allowing the elderly to stay at home with help, noting eligibility by financial need and physical condition. Fry highlighted home services, nutrition programs, and senior centers as cost saving, dignity preserving alternatives to nursing homes.

Whitewright schools open as enrollment rises and changes loom

Summer vacation ends in Whitewright School district as bells ring at 8 a.m. Enrollment totals reach 187 students at the high school, up 20 from last year, while elementary enrollment sits at 187, down 25. Grayson College site on the middle school campus is being torn down. Elementary music and physical education programs debut under Mrs. Pat Pierce and Coach John Parker respectively. Middle school enrollment figures were unavailable at press time.

PTO Officers Lead Off New School Year Programs

The newly elected PTO officers held the first meeting of the year to plan programs and fundraisers including a budget talk by Supt. Dick Capps and a session on child mental health by Chuck Vaughn of the Texoma Regional MHMR center in Sherman. The group also plans a Christmas program and Q&A sessions at each meeting while selling cold drinks at Trade's Day to raise funds. James Johnson presides, with Diane Fennell, Kay England, Sherry Pennell, Judy Wolfe, and Dana Morgan in officer roles.

Tigers Begin Football Practice Under Five Coaches

Fifty nine players turned out for football workouts this past week under Coaches Sessom Roach Parker and Kline. Sessions run twice daily since Monday August 9 with 6:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. practices. Seniors juniors sophomores and freshmen are listed. The Tigers scrimmage Community High School Friday August 20 at 6:00 p.m. and host the Pigskin Club Barbecue at the same time.

Mike Flowers Chooses To Number Houses

Eagle Scout Mike Flowers plans a service project for Whitewright with Troop 42 to install correct house numbers on Grand Avenue Walnut and West Locust streets. The effort, funded by Mike, will occur Saturday Aug 21 with owner permission required. Call 364 2779 to arrange.

Dress Codes Set at Bells High School

Bells High School opened with a new dress code and revised student handbook after registration day. Supt. Jim Borin introduced Mrs. Terry Bishop as the new science teacher and outlined sponsor roles for staff and students. The code limits skirt length to eight inches from the floor when kneeling and bans tight slacks and sweaters. Boys must have hair above the eyes, no mustaches or goatees, and sideburns not past the ear lobes.

Suspect Held In Burglary At Whitewright

Three men were arrested in an alleged burglary attempt at the OK Feed Mill in Whitewright. Jerry Compton, 25, of Whitewright, faces burglary charges while two younger suspects aged 14 and 16 were handed to juvenile authorities. Whitewright officer Mike Parker helped capture the trio as they were cutting a screen door early Saturday morning.

Rural Mail Carriers Meet in Denison

The Grayson-Fannin Rural Letter Carriers and Auxiliary Association held its quarterly meeting at a Denison restaurant. President L M Harmon presided, with Dan Markam delivering the invocation. George P Adams, new Texas RLCA president, spoke as guest. W L Caylor Ravenna was named vice president. Arvel Wiley Sherman re elected secretary treasurer.Auxiliary officers are Glen Adams Whitesboro president, Houston Darwin Whitewright vice president, and J D Moore Savoy secretary treasurer.
