Beadwork Craze Returns as Hobby Among Women
Paul Ryon of Whitewright joins many women in a revived beadwork trend sparked by a 1930s fad. Genevieve, a draftsman at Earnheart's Funeral Home and Sherman Democrat correspondent, explains techniques, from pattern fitting with adding machine math to dyeing beads. Projects include seed pearl necklaces of 1935 beads, rocailles strands with 1477 beads, and multi color ropes. She spends about two weeks per strand and five hours stringing per session, with pieces ranging from chokers to beaded sweaters and majorette costumes.
