J T Holloway of Whitewright presents a patented 60 foot Big Spread Boom for the Big A 2000 sprayer. The system, manufactured by Rickel Inc. of Salina Kansas, folds for transport, lifts over obstacles, and speeds spraying. Holloway claims faster, cheaper field fertilizing and envisions obsoleting older equipment while pursuing a new processing idea for fertilizer.

Whitewright Council Holds Tax Equalization and New Radio Plan
Whitewright city council reviewed 13 tax cases Tuesday night with five residents requesting reductions, resulting in three lower assessments. The meeting adjusts local tax rates at 1.35 per 100 dollars with taxation on half valuation. The council approved a permanent dog pound and a regional radio system with Collin, Cooke, Fannin and Grayson Counties. The city’s share for one mobile and one portable base radio totals 700 dollars, state funding 75 percent, due to a phased sheriff wavelength shutdown in 1972. Police Chief Jerry Pierce will begin a 140 hour police science course at Grayson Junior College this September.

Whitewright's volunteer firemen chose a full slate led by Homer Ryan as fire chief and L E Alexander as assistant chief. D D Brooks was named foreman with J C Hastings as assistant foreman, J B Thornhill secretary treasurer, and Jakie Howell drill master.
