A local bulletin urges residents to fight apathy and boredom by getting involved. Notices celebrate neighbors visiting New Braunfels and Big Bend, invite participation in the Third Saturday Fellowship at Whitewright Fire Hall, and announce the Third Sunday Singing at Kentuckytown Baptist Church with invites to all.

Fashion styles were showcased at Fireman’s Hall with Rhonda Pittman Vickey Hames and Karen Jarvis modeling modern outfits from Steven’s Discount Fashions in Whitewright. Pat Alexander and Ray Vestal hosted. Vestal modeled vintage “Then Fashions” with accessories and notes on era.
Whitewright City Council approved selling the city owned house west of City Hall occupied by the Buck Kidd family. Bids open Sept 2 require the home to be moved within 45 days. Mayor Walker noted a new pump at well No 3 and discussed sewer plant vandalism, rate discussions with CP S and city attorneys, and set water meter deposits at $20. Regular meeting scheduled Sept 2.
The Men s Baseball League sponsored by Whitewright and Van Alstyne wrapped up after a six day tournament with teams Whitewright I and II Van Alstyne Gunter Leonard Am Vets of Sherman Pilot Point Colbert Calera Durant Oklo taking part. Two games were played each evening and championship games were held Saturday. Leonard earned first place and the trophy, Colbert took second, Whitewright II claimed the consolation trophy. Bob Mathis thanked the mayor and police chief for their help during the event.
Local residents Mr. William Summers and Alvin L. Barnes spent a week in New York for the Red River Water Authority Pollution Control Revenue Bonds closing valued at 21 million. They observed signing procedures at The Signature Company and attended Shenandoah at the Alvin Theatre, plus visits to Music Hall Rockefeller Center the Statue of Liberty and the United Nations.
Army Specialist Four Ricky D. Slaughter of Whitewright Texas earned the Bronze German Marksmanship Badge in Germany. The award honors rifle and antitank weapon marks at multiple ranges while he serves as a communications clerk in the 10th Air Defense Artillery Group.
The United States exceeds all nations in telephone ownership per AT&T figures. Americans own 138.3 million phones, averaging 65.47 phones per hundred people, vastly higher than the world average of 8.6 per hundred.
Whitewright Chamber of Commerce at Fireman Hall discussed beautifying Grand Street with ten park benches at 43.88 each and shrubs planters around 20 dollars each. A 400 allocation was approved, with merchants to be asked for donations. Authority to place entry sign regulations and a city map project were debated.
Whitewright Rotary Club, marking a golden anniversary, plans a ladies night on Thursday Aug 28 in the high school cafeteria. Emory Christian is its first district governor. Recent meeting featured Katy Dobson of Sulphur Springs discussing the four way test. Herman Bedford urged aging facilities and transport for the elderly, noting a potential extra mini bus.
Donations have flowed to the Whitewright PTO for the new tennis court. Mrs Lin da Sullivan and Mrs Faye LeDane gave 330 dollars after a two week swimming program at the LeDane pool aiding 54 students aged 2% to adult. A 2200 dollar balance remains and further gifts are encouraged.
A week long revival began Sunday at Harless Memorial United Methodist Church in Sherman with Rev. Bob Bryan of Whitewright Methodist Church as evangelist. He appears each evening at 7 30. Bryan, Texan native and North Texas State University graduate, has served Dallas and north east Texas churches and is in his second year in Whitewright. The public is invited.
Richard Howell, district engineer, announces that Jim Wetzel has transferred to the engineering department. Wetzel, formerly a junior engineer at Andrews, starts as an assistant engineer at the Whitewright office. He and his wife Tynetta bought a home in Tom Bean. she will teach English and French in Howe this fall.
Grayson County College opens fall registration with early signups in Business Administration Building from 8 to 11 30 a m and 1 to 3 30 p m through Wednesday August 13 with returns for regular sessions on August 20 21. By noon Friday 1 510 students had registered early for the fall semester.
The Congressional Joint Economic Committee reports that inflation has lifted government costs most sharply, with food up 12 percent and transport 14 percent, while a middle income family faced a 26.5 percent rise in income taxes.
Whitewright Independent School District prepares a preliminary budget for 1975 76 with no tax increase as classrooms across all grades will be air conditioned for the first time. A public budget hearing is set for August 26 at 8:00 a.m. Delinquent real estate payments face a 15 percent late cost. Student registration is August 14 with classes starting August 18.
Anna Robinson purchases The Beauty Room from Barbara Flannagan and moves Beauty Belle to a downtown Whitewright shop. She also runs Beauty Belle II in Tom Bean via Brenda Bing. remodel completed last weekend featuring Lilly Ann Cosmetics and new staff joins the downtown Belle.
