An official Texas Historical Marker for First United Methodist Church in Tom Bean will be erected at SH11 two miles west of Tom Bean. The 18 by 28 inch cast aluminum marker, sponsored by the church, honors the congregation formed in the 1880s and traces the 1906 Whitemount church move, tornado loss, and later relocations culminating in the 1974 sanctuary move.
Whitewright Pigskin club led by Sonny Smith announces a pre scrimmage barbecue on Friday August 29 at Tiger Stadium. Meals start at 5 30 pm with tickets 3 for adults and 2 50 for children under 12. Underwood caters and proceeds fund high school athletics including game filming for coaches.
Robert Goins named president of the Bells School Board to fill the vacancy created by Dori Moir's resignation after her daughter became a teacher in the district. The meeting also set up an athletic fund accounting committee and discussed budget amendments and meeting dates. A policy change exempts high school students from six week tests if attendance and grades qualify. James Rogers was hired as a school bus driver.
Chuck Wilson president of the First National Bank of Whitewright attended the eighteenth Southwestern Graduate School of Banking session at SMU from July 20 to August 1. The 699 total enrollment marked a school high, with students from 29 states and a large Texas presence.
Frank Langston of the Dallas Times Herald told Whiteright Rotary listeners that freedom of the press in America was bought at a price and must be guarded. He traced threats to muzzle the press from violence to withholding information and cited John Peter Zenger’s 1734 case. Langston noted constitutional limits, responsibility to readers, and the enduring, though imperfect, free press in the United States.
Grayson county reports June sales of Series E and H United States Savings Bonds totaling $729,984, reaching 49 percent of the county’s 1975 six month goal of $1,485,000. County Bond Chairman Bill A. Gray announced the figures as part of statewide and national totals, with Texas monthly sales at $19,368,773 and half year sales at $120,960,714, or 52 percent of the $234.3 million yearly target.
Students in the Whitewright School system will register August 14 starting at 1 p.m. at their respective schools and depart to their homes when registration ends. Buses will run at 12:30 p.m. to pick up students for registration and return them at 2 p.m.

Company cites Tax Reduction Act of 1975 and higher gas purchase costs as 1.1 million losses each, and notes a counter suit against La Vaca Gathering and parents. Twelve months ended June 30 1975 earnings reach 3.66 per share up 18.4 percent from 3.09.
Whitewright High School homemaking teachers Mrs. Janice Kemp and Miss Annette Snider joined state inservice sessions at the Statler Hilton Dallas July 28 to August 1. The forum featured Victor Van Hook and Rep Dan Kubiak with talks on policies affecting homemaking education and economic conditions. Eleven concurrent sessions covered Parenthood education, consumer education and nutrition among others. Awards honoredSenator Bill Moore and Senator Don Adams along with tenure recognitions for 83 teachers totaling 1,745 years of service. Representative Sarah Weddington spoke on laws affecting women and families.
