Firemen Host Ice Cream Supper To Support Equipment

The Whitewright Volunteer Fire Department hosts an ice cream supper at Fireman's Hall on Saturday. Serving starts at 6 30 p m with the public invited. Proceeds fund purchase and upkeep of department equipment and donations support the cause.

Mrs Mays Rehired to Teach French and English Next Year

High school confirms Mrs Joe Mays will teach French and English for the coming year after rehiring following her summer resignation to Houston. One vacancy remains from Bobby King’s departure, with Howard Hodge assisting coaching duties and having led the Whitewright Tigers last season.

Two-a-day football drills start Monday at Whitewright

The 1969 season opens with two-a-day workouts for 35 gridders at the Whitewright practice field. Sessions run 7 to 9:30 a.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Head Coach Clyde McMurray calls the squad promising, with all district performers returning and 10 other lettermen led by lineman David Wilson and back Willie Wright.

Former resident killed in mishap near Sherman

A Whitewright native John Webster 60 and his daughter Joan Webster 32 of Fort Wayne Ind were killed in a fiery collision south of Sherman on U S Highway 75. The wreck occurred when a swaying trailer caused the car to jackknife into a oncoming truck trailer. The two are survived by multiple relatives and funeral services were held in Sherman.

Tragedy in Whitewright: 21 Month Old Sandra Boatwright Killed

Sandra Michelle Boatwright of Sherman died after a car backing from a driveway struck her in Whitewright. The driver could not see the child. she was taken to Sherman hospital but died. Funeral services were held with burial at Wittite Cemetery. Survivors include her parents three grandparents and great grandparents.

Five hay and barn fires Sunday near Sherman area are suspected arson. Deputy Troy Adams and DPS officers fail to find suspects as locals organize donations to aid arrest, prosecution, and possible attorney fees. Wolfe City Rodeo Parade Opens Three Night Event

Whitewright Riding Club will lead Wolfe City Rodeo Parade on Thursday Aug 21 at 5 p.m. U S Congressmen Ray Roberts and Earl Nichols to marshal with the Wolfe City Band and drill team. Whitewright man killed in Sherman knife attack

Grady Head Jr., 23, of Route 1 Whitewright, died from seven stab wounds at a Sherman home after a night return from the VFW Club. Joe Richard Raze, 22, of Sherman, was charged with murder and held on 5000 dollars bond.
