Prepare Your Child For School Now
Children entering school next fall should undergo medical and dental exams this summer with the family physician and dentist, or alternative arrangements. The National Congress of Parents and Teachers has sponsored a long running school entry round-up with a standard medical record form. Pre school health should include height and weight, posture, vision and hearing tests, dental exam, and disease checks. The sixth-year molar requires protection as permanent teeth develop around it. Immunizations for smallpox, diphtheria, and whooping cough are advised, with repeat inoculations before school. Psychologically, preschoolers should begin weaning from home before school, and emotionally mature children welcome school as social, adventurous. Encourage regular health habits this summer so mornings, meals, and organization come naturally at fall start.
