Few Veterans Use Up Jobless Pay in Texas
In Texas fewer than one percent of eligible veterans have exhausted their readjustment allowances of 20 dollars per week for 52 weeks over the last two years. Texas Unemployment Compensation Commission chairman Harry Benge Crozier said only about 5,000 veterans have used their entire entitlement since the program began. At that rate 2,500 veterans per year would require 260 more years to exhaust all benefits. Veterans may receive compensation under the GI Bill until two years after war termination or discharge, whichever is later.

Government to raise price ceilings on staples and textiles
Washington officials said Tuesday night price ceilings will be raised for canned vegetables breakfast cereals coffee and possibly bread. The OPA moved to higher clothing prices and prepared for garment hikes of 15 to 20 percent while cotton textiles rise about 16 percent. Subside lapsed subsidies on coffee and canned vegetables to end could push retail ceilings up 8 to 10 cents per pound for coffee and 1 to 2 cents per can for peas corn and tomatoes.
