The 1941 graduates and guests of Whitewright High School held their first reunion July 28, 1962 at 7 30 P M with a dinner at the Fireman’s Hall for 23 ex students. W J Bilmer was master of ceremonies. Dorotha Darwin Gosnell gave the welcome and Billy Jack Harper replied. The roll was called by La Verne Kilgree Darwin.Recognition was given to former teachers Mrs Jack Lackey and S T Montgomery Jr Velma Holland Dickerman read the class poem and Marie Badgett Wilson read a memorial to deceased classmates and teachers Genelle Hicks Benson Jarvis Maddux Lewis Vestal and teachers Mrs Katherine Roddy and Tom Cunningham. The floral arrangement was from parents. The ex students voted to hold the next reunion the last Saturday night in July 1966 with Kilgree Darwin elected chairman and Gosnell secretary. Pictures were by George Hight. At 1 P M July 29 the group met at the high school with families for an informal get together. The ex students voted to buy an American Flag for the Whitewright High Pep Squad in memory of the deceased. United States July job data show 450000 fewer unemployed to just over 4 million and a 25 000 rise in employment to 69 564 000. The unemployment rate falls to 5.3 percent, the lowest since May 1960, tempering pressure for an immediate tax cut while Kennedy weighs mixed indicators.
The Texas Railroad Commission orders a hearing Sept 11 at 9 a.m. in Sherman Courthouse on the Missouri Kansas Texas Railroad Company request to establish Whitewright as a prepay freight station. If approved all incoming shipments must be prepaid by shippers. outgoing handling unknown. Receipts at the Whitewright depot exceed $25,000 yearly with freight also moved by Katy truck line. Findley Haile plans to present facts at the hearing and other users may testify. Possible depot closure could provoke Whitewright to enforce local speed laws on Katy trains.
Anthony J. Celebrezze former Cleveland mayor was sworn in in the White House rose garden as secretary of health education and welfare succeeding Abraham Ribicoff who left to seek a Connecticut Senate seat. Kennedy attended the ceremony.

Whitewright Boys League fell to Van Alstyne 13 to 3 with Whitewright limited to one hit and four errors. Van Alstyne pitchers Mike McBay and Roy Miller combined for seven strikeouts. Whitewright’s Gary Ryan had the team s only hit, a single, and Harold Carter, James Walker and Roy Brown led Van Alstyne with multiple hits. In the Youth League, Whitewright crushed Howe 39 to 3 as Scooter McCurdy and teammates supplied 18 hits and six errors by Howe. McCurdy struck out nine. Crossland led Howe with 11. Big Whitewright contributors included Terry Edwards Scottie Jones Dickie Leonardi Joe Hennig and Scooter McCurdy. Upcoming games: Whitewright at Howe on Aug. 2 and Whitewright versus the National League winner on Aug. 6 or 8.
Mrs Walter B Hestand formerly of Whitewright died in Austin on Monday with funeral and burial services held at Slaton. She was the widow of W B Hestand a former Whitewright grocery merchant. The Hestands moved to Slaton about 35 years ago. Surviving are two daughters Mary and Joe.
Funeral services were held at Gunter Saturday for David R Cunningham 57 of Gunter who died Friday in a Sherman hospital Burial was in Van Alsyne Cemetery Born December 14 1904 in Texas he was the son of Mr and Mrs H H Cunningham He belonged to the Gunter Church of Christ and Woodmen of the World Surviving are his wife Mrs Hattie Cunningham of Gunter his mother Mrs H H Cunningham of Whitewright two brothers Bruce Cunningham of Texarkana and Otto Cunningham of Whitewright and one sister Mrs J O Brinkley of Sherman
