WPA to Cut Off Dole for Refusers of Private Jobs
Washington reported plans by the Works Progress Administration to run a nationwide drive pushing relief recipients toward private employment. Officials said those refusing private work may lose relief, as the goal is to shift 3.5 million people from direct relief by November and reduce federal relief outlays. The program will preserve those on relief who take temporary private jobs and expects about 500,000 harvesting roles this summer.
