District II Texas Press Women meet at Ball home

The April gathering of the District II Texas Press Women was hosted Sunday by former Whitewright resident Mrs. Joan Ball. Attendees included journalists from Denison Sherman Bonham Greenville and Whitewright as well as Ball who is writing a book. The group noted the TPW founded in 1893 and announced two grain and livestock marketing seminar sessions at Whitewright grade school cafetorium on April 29 and May 6. Local订订 newsletters also mention birthday greetings and light town news including a birthday dinner plan for Pansy Miller and a joke about a difficult telephone operator.

Mrs. Lewis elected delegate to federation meeting in Sherman

Mrs. Florence Lewis was elected delegate to the Federation Club meeting held in Sherman. The Whitewright Community club met in Fireman's Hall with Edith Grider and Artie Connally as hostesses. A record turnout is expected as Democrats and Republicans go to the polls to nominate officials from the courthouse to the White House. Texans will vote presidential preference for the first time under current law, with delegates pledged to Senator Lloyd Bentsen Governor George Wallace and former Governor Jimmy Carter. In Whitewright voting will occur at Fireman's Hall Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Whitewright Girls Win Regional Track Meet in Stephenville

Whitewright girls capture three event titles at Stephenville regional meet scoring 63 points to outpace Carroll and Windthorst. Team members include Cheri Floyd Claire Whipple Vicky Hames Bev Blanton Donna Ballard Marion Gentry and Debbie Whipple with relay and sprint wins leading to state meet qualification. The Whitewright boys also take district honors in Bonham with 180 points including 440 yd relay 43.6 and sprint double wins by Walter Daniels and Terry Clark.

Bill Thurman Awards Presented at Whitewright High School

Lions Club basketball awards crowned teams and individuals at the high school gym. Carl's Sausage led boys with Whitewright Grain and Elevator taking top girls honors. Melton's Grocery and Walker Pharmacy and Dawson Propane also earned runner-up spots. MVPs named, all stars listed, and Nine Tigers qualified for the Stephenville regional meet.

Area Home Burglarized West of Whitewright

The home of Bobby McCullough three miles west of Whitewright on the Ida Road was burglarized Sunday. Stolen items include stereo equipment a guitar and tape player with a total value of 1375 dollars. Entry was gained by breaking the front door. Deputy A Ray Whitney investigated.

Local Women Honored At VA Volunteers Ceremony

Mrs Vera Chesser and Mrs Lucille Ingram of Whitewright received 100 hour certificates of appreciation at the VA Voluntary Service ceremony held at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham. Certificates were awarded for 100 300 and 500 hours along with a 5000 hour VA gold pin. Earle W Newton acted as chief and Chaplain E W Goram gave the invocation. Dr G Hassard welcomed guests and praised the volunteers and The Musical Fantatics from Trenton High School performed with Mrs Tom McHolmes guiding the choir.

Foot Stomping Country Musical Shines in Whitewright

A Whitewright grade school cafetorium crowd enjoyed a lively country musical sponsored by the 200 Club. World champion fiddler Lewis Franklin headlined with Horace McDonald and others, plus a jam session. Proceeds totaled about 150 dollars for club activities with May 20 performances planned and a new club meeting location announced.
