Brenda Thornhill, daughter of Mr and Mrs J B Thornhill, is chosen by the Lions Club for a 500 scholarship to a college of her choice. An upcoming class honor student, she plans to enter Grayson College and aims to become a special education teacher or a physical therapist. She is a four year Beta Honor Society and FHA member, a Tigerette, and a three year cheerleader active in school life.

Senior Citizen Club Receives $500 Gift
The 200 Club meeting heard a $500 donation to buy equipment and discussed a new centrally located building with heat, air, and restrooms. The club rejected a federal grant to stay self sustaining and announced Woman of the Year and Man of the Year nominees. Easter visitors were listed from Lewisville, Sherman, and College Station.

Retired farmer Columbus Freeman Sr. dies Saturday in a Whitewright nursing home. Services at First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Herman Woods, burial at Whitewright Cemetery. Survivors include wife Mae Etta Robbins, sons Columbus Jr. and M C Freeman in San Antonio, daughters in Los Angeles Fort Worth and San Antonio, 25 grandchildren, multiple siblings and relatives. Burial directed by Boyd Smith Funeral Home of Sherman.

Whitewright Rotary President Chuck Wilson used a no show to cover club business. Dist Gov Emery Christian presented a trophy won by Herman Goins at the district conference. The club ranked high in attendance and 40 percent of members are under 41. Wilson praised attendance but warned against excess laxity. Reed Pittman received a $50 prize for a prize winning call at Log Lake. Members were urged to nominate new members. Rod Earnheart and Clinton Hennig to plan the annual fish fry.

The Sun Leader Publishing company, publisher of The Whitewright Sun and The Van Alstyne Leader, received a Texas corporate charter from the Secretary of State. Principal stockholders are Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey McAlister and their son Donald, promotions manager at The Southwest Times in Liberal, Kaw. Offices will be in Whitewright and Van Alstyne, with main offices at The Leader in Van Alstyne. The McAlisters, former owners of The Daily Favorite in Bonham, are active in both papers. Don McAlister will write a column on public and government subjects. Elton Miller remains editor of The Leader, with Ann Mahaffey in advertising and Compuwriter Jr. typesetting. Mrs. Vicki Crawford joins as part-time Compuwriter operator. Darla Howell continues as editor-manager of The Sun. Both papers are now largely home-produced using the Compuwriter Jr. electronic typesetter. all pages are pasted up and sent to Bonham for offset printing.

The First National Bank hosted the exhibit while the Friday Literary club hosted a meeting at Mrs. Leon Porter’s home with program led by Mrs. Chuck Wilson and Mrs. Bill Holloway.
