Senate Democratic Leader Lyndon B. Johnson and House Speaker Sam Rayburn criticized President Eisenhower for accusing Congress of delaying his program and overspending. They warned Republicans seek a political issue, while Rayburn noted Congress has passed eight regular appropriation bills totaling $244 million below White House requests.

The action bars any strike for at least 60 days, with no strike date set though May 4 was a possible date. The nonoperating unions seek higher wages and benefits including health welfare, vacations and group life insurance.
The Dallas VA regional office explains that a veteran's net worth affects pension eligibility under the July 1 1960 law. Onstat says estates include property stocks bonds cash or other assets and each case is evaluated on factors such as age health life expectancy dependents and income. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Survived by niece Mrs. O L Jones and four half sisters in California and Texas along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Oscar M. Brown a 79 year old retired farmer were held at 2 30 p m Sunday in Earnheart Funeral Chapel. Born October 30 1880 in Putnam County Tennessee he moved to Texas in 1901. He married Callie Robbins in Whitewright in 1904 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife three sons three daughters two sisters a brother nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Out of town relatives attended from Berkeley Linton Alice Dallas Saginaw Sherman Fort Worth Collinsville Denison and Leonard.
Alma Mitchell Epting 80 wife of Rev W J Epting died at home 118 North Binkley Sherman after a lengthy illness. Funeral 2 30 p m First Baptist Church Sherman burial West Hill Cemetery. Born October 5 1879 Ellis Town Mississippi. Married May 28 1911 Ellis Town. moved to Whitewright where her husband pastored about 10 years. Survived by husband a son Roy Epting Sherman one sister four grandchildren 12 great grandchildren and a niece.
The Labor Department reports March consumer price index at 125.7 percent of the 1947-49 base, with food costs rising for the first time in six months. The index is 1.6 percent higher than March last year, as price chief Arnold Chase warns of further increases into late summer. An accompanying note cites 2,910 pedestrian deaths and 66,030 injuries from road crossings last year.
The Sherman Chamber of Commerce held a regular meeting at a Whitewright school cafe teria with Whitewright directors as guests. David Brown urged cooperation, heard Whitewright suggestions, and discussed bus service, parking rules, and regional road projects to benefit both towns.
Lucille Smith a 60 year old crossing guard outweighed by Charles Cambron a 41 year old Texan stood 6 foot 4. She intervened when two men attempted to rob a blind man, chased one away and then confronted Cambron who police said was too shaken to talk in jail.
Negro and white students marched a mile-long picket through downtown Austin to desegregate eating places. Pickets carried placards hinting at sit-ins, including quotes about dignity and coffee. The event caused little disturbance despite surrounding downtown activity. Young drivers under 25, though a minority, accounted for nearly 29 percent of all U S fatal accidents in 1959.
