The Whitewright group meets at 2 15 p m in the First National Bank directors room to nominate officers for the 1960 61 campaign year. Local rain totals rise slightly as farmers seek better soil moisture.
Ballot sample shows candidates by office with party pledge. Officials listed include Governor Price Daniel and Lyndon B. Johnson among many state and local posts. Voters mark choices, detach stub, and cast ballot in box.
Texas reports 561 traffic deaths for the first 17 weeks of 1960 versus 671 in the same period in 1959, while fatal wrecks total 458 compared with 575. Department of Public Safety notes the drop reflects improved safety or conditions.

Lucille Shaw, 17, a Whitewright High School junior, earned the State Homemaker Degree at the Texas FHA meeting in Austin on April 29. The award requires an autobiographical portfolio and progress toward six homemaking goals, plus prior degrees and two years of homemaking. Shaw is the first Whitewright girl to win the honor and plans to study at East Texas State College to teach after graduation. her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shaw.
Joe Crouch, assistant football coach, was advanced to head coach by the Whitewright Board of Education. He succeeds Harry Lander, who resigned to coach at Sulphur Springs High School. Crouch helped the regional champions win all 12 games last season. Lander becomes athletic director and head coach at Sulphur Springs starting June.
Awards were presented to seven soil conservation farmers and one landlord at the Upper Elm-Red Soil Conservation District banquet in Sherman. Recipients include C. M. Kelso near Denison W. H. Green near Bowie Edwin Anthony near Era W. M. Tucker near Nocona and Aloiz Trubenbach near Muenster. Roy Lynch near Gainesville won best eroded farm reclaiming honors. Owner Tenant Award went to Miss Helina Kleiss and Henry Grewing on a Valley View farm. Slides were shown by Gene Foster before about 600 attendees from Gray, Cooke and Montague counties.
The Sun descendants in the Potomac River area report a weekly school lunch menu from UNCLE DAN. Monday offers Barbecued Beef on Buns with Green Salad Potato Chips and Sugar Cookies. Tuesday through Friday feature varied entrees and sides ending with desserts and fruit.
The White Wright Parent Teacher Association will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday May 10 at 7 30 p m in the school library. Mrs Earl Blanton's homemaking girls will run the program. The public is invited to attend.
In Washington on Wednesday House Democrats led by Speaker Sam Rayburn condemned Secretary Flemming and the administrations aged care proposal. They cited federal state matching funds for 65 plus benefits and warned Texas may block participation without constitutional changes. Representatives Ikard Alger criticized the plan as costly and ill drafted.
Charles Young 71 died in a Dallas hospital after a long illness. Funeral services 2 p m Thursday at First Baptist Church Trenton, conducted by Rev. Bill Perrin and Rev. H V Caraway. Burial Burns Cemetery. He was born July 7 1888 in Hunt County and married Floy Grayson in 1916. Survived by wife, 2 sons, 5 daughters, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, 21 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. Dolly Madison reportedly served ice cream in 1809.
