Boy Scouts Win Ball Game and Camp Out
Grady Durham reports that the Boy Scouts won a baseball game 7 to 5 against the Canaan school team during a camp out at Land of Canaan. After the game, the scouts pitched camp at a small pool, cooked, played games, and slept under blankets and haystacks. They returned home by 8 am the next day and planned to visit all city churches with Scoutmaster Brown to boost church participation.

Auto speeds after injuring girl in Sherman
Catherine Harrison a 12 year old girl, daughter of Mrs Mary C Harrison, was seriously injured when struck by a fast moving automobile near her home on Travis Street. Shermans surrounding towns were alerted to locate the speeding driver. A car passing Howe refused to stop. the night watchman fired at the vehicle, but it fled.

Denison April 18. Ben W. Grimmet appointed district court receiver for the White Produce Company at the request of several banks. Bond set at 50000 dollars. Cleveland Phoebus a Tom Bean farmer had bond set at 5000 dollars after a habeas corpus hearing before Judge F E Wilcox. He was indicted by a grand jury for murder in the March 10 shooting of Wiley C Hopper at Tom Bean. Hopper was Phoebus brother in law and Phoebus posted bond and was released.

Meredosia Illinois April 19 levee of the Meredosia Lake drainage district broke flooding 8000 acres of wheat and more than fifty homes. Residents and livestock escaped as floodwaters rose along the Illinois river area with crews in Arkansas City nearby racing to stave off breaks.

Whitewright wins district declamation title again
Miss Corinne Lilley of Whitewright captured first place in senior girls declamation at the district interscholastic league meet in Paris. Her win advances her to state contests at State University in May representing Grayson, Collin, Fannin and Lamar counties. Whitewright and Denison were Grayson County’s only literary contest winners. this marks Whitewright’s third consecutive year at the State meet. Also noted is a growing Whitewright youth prayer meeting, from 25 attendees to over 100, led by Jack Webster at the Presbyterian Church, with 125 expected next Tuesday.

Pistol Fight On Street Between Denison Men
In Denison Texas on April 17 two men, Mike Patti and E O Fredericks, exchanged seven pistol shots on East Sears street. Patti, who runs a confectionery, and Fredericks a Southern Pacific Railroad brakeman, fought with guns as clubs until Beatrice Patti, Mike’s mother, restrained Fredericks and aided Patti. Police took both men into custody and cases moved to county. Fredericks lost part of his right thumb in the fray.

Sam A Wallace longtime Whitewright resident dies at 76
Sam A Wallace pioneer citizen of this section died at his son Grover Wallace’s home six miles east of town at 3 o clock Monday morning. Born January 15, 1847 in Ohio County Kentucky he moved here in 1856 and lived in Whitewright area for 66 years. He was a Confederate veteran and later joined the Church of Christ. Funeral held at Oak Hill Cemetery Tuesday at 2:30 pm conducted by Rev J A Dickey of Sherman and Rev J F Fender. Survived by children Mont Wallace Lloyd Becheler Bert Wallace Jim Wallace Grover Wallace Jesse Wallace and by brothers Joe A Wallace and others and a sister Mrs Sallie Berry

Bermuda onions pour from Laredo nightly via I N and Texas Mexican Railroads to markets nationwide. Some head to Galveston for steamship routes to New York and Boston. Peak shipments hit April 12 with 97 carloads, then 27 more on April 13 and 81 on April 14. Over three weeks, 700 carloads shipped. next week may see around 100 per day as harvest peaks.
