The third annual Pure Food Fair opened in the Pierce building with twenty booths and experts ready to explain products. A large crowd attended the first afternoon and will likely fill the venue daily. Events include cake and beauty contests, a masquerade show, a baby show, plays, and the Tom Thumb Wedding, with proceeds supporting school campus beautification by the PTA and church ladies who started the fair three years ago.

Baxter Found Not Guilty of Forgery
In Sherman Judge Wilcox presided as Baxter was found not guilty on an instructed verdict in the Fifty-ninth district court. The case was the first of twelve forgery and embezzlement charges slated for trial this week. Prosecutors alleged Baxter forged the G B R Milling Company of Sherman to company checks while serving as bookkeeper. about 25000 dollars were implicated. Defense argued checks bore only stamped names and no signatures.

Rum Fleet Operates Off Texas Coast Says Prohibition Agent
Dallas reports that a rum fleet is operating off the Texas coast. Charles Beck, a local prohibition agent, says ships from Mexico and South America and Europe are bringing liquor into the Gulf of Mexico. Liquor is unloaded offshore and moved by small boats then distributed by airplanes over North and East Texas. Beck notes plans to disrupt the traffic soon.

Young Farmer Hance C. Jones Dies After Horse Jump
Hance C. Jones a 24 year old farmer from Gage north of Whitesboro died in Sherman Monday forenoon from a cerebral hemorrhage believed caused by a fall from a horse Saturday. He fell ill Saturday night and was taken to Sherman Sunday afternoon for treatment after entering a stupor. Surviving are his mother and eight brothers and sisters.

March report shows wholesale price jump across commodities

Three Men Held in Slaying of Officers
New Orleans authorities rounded up three men suspected of belonging to a rum running gang after Deputy Sheriffs Bello Estopinal and August Esteve were shot and killed in a gun battle on the Lake Borgne canal bridge. Austin April 17 Governor Neff transmits to the Legislature four measures to bolster law enforcement.
