The Committee on Masonic Service and Education reports 150 programs in Texas since January 1 teaching Americanism and civic values. Over 100 speakers, five film sets, and a two reel Home and School film highlight Masonry efforts for widows’ children. Tyler becomes a new district hub under Henry Edwards with East Texas campaigns planned. Membership includes Randell, McClendon, Howorth, Smith, and Johnson. The Home film will tour Texas circuits via Universal Film Company.

Escaped Convicts Shot After Running Battle Near Palestine
Two escaped convicts from Eastham prison farm were shot and seriously wounded, and a third captured unharmed after a running gunfight four miles south of Palestine, as Sheriff Rogers and two deputies intercepted a stolen car heading north. J. A. Franks alias Walter Shanks and Jewel Hale were wounded, both hospitalized and expected to recover. Sam Cates of Lubbock, serving sixteen years for murder, was captured.

C C Rountree a senior partner of C C Rountree & Son and well known Sherman cotton exporter died at his home 926 South Travis street at 1 PM Tuesday after several months illness. He had lived in Sherman for over 45 years and was born in Huntsville Texas. He moved to Sherman with his mother and six sisters in January 1878.

Denison Man Looper Charged With Murder After Denison Fight
Luther Looper, 27, a Fort Worth buyer, held in Grayson County jail on a murder charge growing from the Denison street fight that killed Sam Kopac, 23, a Katy railroad machinist. Witnesses say Looper stabbed Kopac with a pocket knife during an argument over a car, Kopac died of two knife wounds, including one to the heart.
