Bill Dyer Elected to Head Local School Board

White Wright School Board members elected Bill Dyer president at a Tuesday meeting. Henry Bing was named vice president and Charles Skaggs secretary. Canvassing of the April 5 election named James W. Donaghey and W. J. Bilmler as three year trustees.

Grayson County Court Acts April 1969 Sessions

The Grayson County Commissioners' Court met in regular session April 14 and 15 1969 approving a three month lease for a chip spreader at 1000 monthly and a 150 sector from Hestand's Pharmacy with funds from the Home Educational Fund They canvassed school elections and Pottsboro district status with 245 votes 05 for independent district and 180 against A maintainer was allowed to be sold privately and Temple Le Pettit was approved a Public Weigher's Bond The treasurer's quarterly report and temporary auditor staff pay rate of 170 an hour were approved The article notes Daylight Saving Time begins April 27 with clocks set forward one hour from 2 a m to 3 a m and explains the time change details for Whitewright residents.

Log Lake stock sale ties Whitewright to show week

Whitewright businessmen bought livestock at a Fries day auction closing the Texomal and Junior Livestock Show. O K Feed Mill purchased two steers and a hog, Carl's Sausage Co. bought the Reserve Champion hog, and local firms including Monsanto Center Farley and Donneghey, Community Public Service, Walker's Pharmacy, and Tom Sears bought steers and other stock from local producers.

Postmaster Biggerstaff Attends Dallas Refresher Course

Whitewright postmaster John Biggerstaff among 22 Texas post masters in Dallas for a refresher course this week. The three day school aims to keep postmasters updated on postal operation developments. Biggerstaff had previously attended 15 refresher courses.

Bells youth, 1, critically injured by horse kick

Quentin Turner, son of Mr and Mrs Tomo Turner of Bells, was kicked by a horse while helping feed livestock. He suffered abdominal and chest injuries, underwent surgery at Madonna Hospital Denison, and faced critical condition for 48 hours. By Sunday he was off the critical list and improving.

Whitewrighters Sweep Texoma Exposition Project Divisions

Eighteen Whitewright entries win ribbons in FFA and FHA Project Division at Log Lake Park. Patsy Williams earns blue in clothing, with Judy Stapp and Mary Beth Walker taking red. Brenda Wright blue in class one food division for yeast breads and cakes. class two blue for Susan Holloway in candies and pies. Gail Murphy blue in cookies and quick breads. Cynthia Smith red. Arts and crafts blue ribbons go to Sharon Hastings, Phyllis Earnheart, Vicki Burleson. red to Janna Wilson, Kathy Golden, Nancy Neatherly. Beef cattle blue ribbons to Jimmy Worsham for males over two years and for 18 to 24 months. Darrell Dyer top for best fitted animal in beef cattle under one year. Doyle Walker and Roy Layman blue in 18-24 month females. Billy Jester wins blue for Duroc dry sow. J. C. Barnette and Joe Bertino were superintendents. Doris King and others composed the show committee. Food division judges were Mrs. Mabel London and Mrs. Jeremine Guillaud.

Whitewright FFA dominates Texoma Exposition Livestock Show

Whitewright FFA members led by Darrell Dyer and Gary Christian won top awards at Log Lake Park. Results include Grand Champion Angus steer for Darrell Dyer, Reserve Champion Hereford steer for Darrell, multiple blue ribbons on Duroc gilts and sows, and a second place Junior Livestock Judging finish. The sale featured high bids and record prices for the fat steers.

Western Week activities planned for Whitewright next week

Whitewright gears up for Western Week with a parade among floats from local classes. Three kings and three queens will be chosen from Grade School Junior High and High School based on fundraising totals. A trail ride follows the parade. Rodeos barbecue and a Friday night variety show cap the events with crowning of 1969 Western Day kings and queens.

Whitewright Council Targets Highway 69 Dumping

Whitewright city council welcomed John Curtis and then moved to street issues. They condemned dumping on Highway 69 and proposed fines from 10 to 200 dollars per offense to set an example. They planned a meeting with Continental Telephone officials to address poor service and noted Ray Roberts stating regulation is a state matter.

Librarian Visits Denison Library Figures in Texas Week

Jerry Hunt of the Denison Public Library spoke to the local Literary Club and toured the library. He praised Denison facilities and noted access to the Dallas District Library Center Texas State Library and Library of Congress during National Library Week in Texas in April 2026.
