Steve Hodge a 6 3 190 pound all state quarterback from Whitewright high school signed a letter of intent to attend East Texas State University. ETSU coach Ernest Hawkins called him one of the area’s best all round athletes citing his size speed and intelligence. Hodge also earned Class A all tournament honors in basketball as the Tigers reached state. East Texas finished 5 3 1 in 1976 in the Lone Star Conference. East Texas won the NAIA national title in 1972. Steve is the son of Mr and Mrs Howard Hodge.

James England was elected president of the Parent Teacher Organization at a high school library meeting on Tuesday. New officers include Kay England as first vice president programs, Diane Stephens as third vice president hospitality, Jeannie Crouch as second vice president membership, Janis Emerson secretary, and Peggy Gattis treasurer. Room mother coordinator for 1977 78 will be Sandra Shaw with Linda Jester as yearbook and project chairman. A PTO spokesman noted enthusiasm and discussed reducing meetings to three or four yearly including students to boost participation and support.

Rotarians discuss education complexities and college choice
Dr. John D. Mosley president of Austin College spoke before Whitewright Rotarians about the rapid changes in society and jobs, the challenge of selecting a course of study, and the importance of a college degree. He noted 11 million in higher education and 11 million in vocational schools, and urged planning within commuting-distance systems to broaden access. He closed by recalling Easter’s reflection on life’s fundamental problems.
