Austin April 2 The Thirty-Eighth Legislature sets a special session to begin April 16 as the Governor issues a proclamation. The move aims to address a projected revenue deficiency potentially reaching ten million dollars and to consider revenue, appropriations, enforcement, and anti corrupt measures.
Eighty boys from twelve rural Fannin and Grayson counties participated in livestock and crop judging events at the grammar school auditorium. Winners were announced for overall points and per category with prizes, lunch, and a film show provided after the contest.
W. H. King and Guy Hamilton were re elected city commissioners in Whitewright with no opposition as only thirty eight votes were cast. The two incumbents have served the city for two years and faced no challengers, an unusual outcome for the period.
A tornado plowed through Cass County Texas on Wednesday afternoon leaving a path about fifteen miles long and wrecking roughly twenty five homes. The Law's Chapel and Alamance areas suffered the heaviest damage with no deaths reported by late Wednesday. The storm began near Laws Chapel and moved east toward Atlanta before lifting near Alamance.
Unofficial returns from most precincts show Louis Blaylock head the Democratic ticket for mayor with a full slate of commissioners elected. The result marks the first complete defeat for the Citizens' Association, and all bond issues and charter amendments passed by strong margins.
The semi annual convention of the Grayson County Baptist Young People's Union will be held here two days next week. Delegates, numbering about seventy five to one hundred, will be entertained by Baptist Church members. A full program is planned and the two day meeting is expected to be enjoyable.
A new Texas road tax raises gasoline price to 23 cents a gallon, with the extra revenue turned over to the State highway commission for permanent highway construction. The legislature also enacted a about fifty percent rise in automobile license tax, effective January 1924.

Sherman Apr 2 Crime in Grayson County and beyond is decreasing says Judge F E Wilcox as he empanels the April term grand jury. He urges focus on liquor laws but warns against overlooking any offense. The 14 jurors include foreman Ben Oglesby Gordonville and members from Sherman Howe Van Alstyne Denison Bells and Pottsboro.
Washington reports March customs receipts totaling 62 172 000, the highest on record, surpassing September 1921’s 53 135 000. American imports for 1922 reached 3 112 548 772 versus 2 509 147 570 in 1921, with Europe showing the largest proportional rise. December imports stood at 293 463 592, up from 237 405 505 in December 1921.
The Sears Grain Company corn mill and elevator was traded to J W Allen of Gainesville for 430 acres near Bennington Oklahoma. The deal closed last week. Sears Grain manager W P Vaughn says the company leased the elevator and will continue operating it. Built about four years ago the property is described as valuable. the consideration was twenty thousand dollars.
A special Masonic lodge meeting is set for Friday evening April 6 to confer the Fellow Craft degree with all members urged to attend. Superintendent H L Durham met county representatives in Sherman to choose a site for the District Interscholastic League meet. Sherman was chosen to host on April 13 and 14 with Paris and Leonard as competitors.
The Tex-48 Congress of Mothers and Parent-Teacher Association district conference opened with about 150 delegates expected. Sessions set at the grammar school auditorium and the Methodist Church through Friday feature addresses, music, and reports led by Mrs. W. R. Taylor and other local officials.
L V Smith was seen in Greenville on Tuesday visiting local sites and meeting residents, signaling ongoing regional ties and activity.
The State Board of Education approved an 6.50 per capita apportionment based on 1,297,239 students, totaling 8,432,048 dollars. This lifts funding well above the 5 per capita high in 1922 as funds from a 3 million emergency appropriation and near 5 million monthly transfer enable the widest distribution yet. Authorities expect further per capita payments of 1 dollar on May 1 with remaining allocations later, with counties and districts beginning calculations immediately and deposits not likely until April 10.
In Denison on April 4 W S Hibbard won the mayoral race and P H Tobin captured a commissioner seat on the citizens ticket. Hibbard defeated incumbent mayor W F Weaver by 144 votes and Tobin defeated J O Scruggs by 119 votes. The election proceeded quietly as labor leaders and citizens alike canvassed for turnout. Weaver had served two years as mayor on the labor ticket and was renominated while Scruggs, new to politics, ran over R M Haley, the present city commissioner.
The Presbyterian Methodist revival will begin Sunday April 15 with Rev. W. E. Graham of Greenville leading assisted by local church pastors. Mr. Fraser of Fort Worth will direct the song services and conduct the musical portion of the revival.
Washington experts say President Harding could raise the sugar tariff following the tariff commission's investigation into sugar prices. Government analysts note the inquiry may push policy toward higher duties.
