The Whitewright Chamber of Commerce will honor Man, Woman and Farmer of the year at its Saturday banquet in the high school gym starting at 7 30. Tickets are on sale and attendees are urged to attend the ceremony presenting the year’s top awards.
Edith Jester and Priscille Riker chair a Whitewright house to house Cancer Crusade led by Town and Country Club with FHA and Hero Club aid. The goal is 10,000 for Southern Grayson including Sherman and 17 towns, funds support research education and patient services with volunteers. Also notice transfer deadline May 1 for the 1975 76 Whitewright ISD year.
Mrs. Dean Newhouse, former Plano councilwoman and Red River Valley Genealogical Society president, will lead a 2 p.m. Tuesday April 15 lecture at Greenville Public Library on tracing family trees. Free to the public, the talk covers starting points in genealogy and notes libraries as a research base.
The Whitewright City Council approved a retroactive Lone Star Gas rate hike starting January, with bills rising about $2 per month for Lovaca Gathering Co. gas. Six month billing begins in May and the move is explained to affect gas service only.
Dr. Fred Tarpley of East Texas University lectured on Women s Lib and the English Language at Mrs C J Meador s home with 22 members present. In Whitewright, Dick Walker won the mayoral race with 206 votes, defeating Homer Ryan 151. Aldermen elected were Stephen Sullivan Joe Wolfe and L A Watkins III. School board winners were James Donaghey and Charles Skaggs for three year terms. Narvin Alexander won a one seat by one vote.
Mayor Vince Freeman announces no near term tax increase as he retires after a term marked by sewer and water line upgrades in Whitewright. He highlights street repaving, new signs, drainage work, and stronger ordinances while praising citizen support. A. L. Isome reelected Bells mayor, with Ramsey and Washburn winning council seats.
Whitewright School hosts a pre school screening on Wednesday April 16 at 3 30 p m in the Whitewright High School Library led by Birth to Three caseworker Mrs Diane Fennell. She will screen development delays and connect families to Texoma Center services. Savoy voters elect J D Moore J D Hutchins to three year terms and Bob Hazelwood to a two year term with Gene Thurmond winning a one year post.
Whitewright FHA thanks Whitewright residents for backing Texoma Junior Livestock Show at Loy Lake last week. Senior Division winners include Jayne Harper and Janna Worsham in art, Cindy Donaghey in crafts, and multiple blue red and white ribbon recipients across clothing crafts foods needlework and draft divisions.
