Smith Re-elected To Head Schools Whitewright

Fred W. Smith was re-elected superintendent of Whitewright schools. Under his four year leadership the district earned state credits and secured Southern Association of Colleges and Schools membership. Whitewright, Sherman, and Denison schools are Grayson County members enabling graduates to enter Southern colleges without entrance exams. Smith plans improvements and has reduced a prior deficit. Faculty hires will follow at a future board meeting.

Dairying Industry Discussed at Friday Meeting

A mass meeting for farmers and business men will be held Friday April 6 at 7 30 p m in the grammar school auditorium. Rangers Fall to McKinney Lions in 10 3 defeat

Whitewright Rangers baseball traveled to McKinney to face the Lions. Coffey pitched seven innings for the Rangers before Ryan closed the game with solid relief as McKinney bullpen combos held a 10 to 3 win. Bonham hosts Rangers Friday in anticipated closely matched contest.

F M Echols was re elected without opposition to his seventh consecutive mayoral term in Whitewright. He has led the city as mayor and city manager for 12 years, with commissioners W H King and Guy Hamilton serving since the commission form began seven years ago. The town is reputed as well governed with finances in good condition and departments run on business lines.

Love Field Purchased by Dallas for 325000

Dallas bought Love Field, a 167.1 acre commercial airport, for 325000 after weeks of negotiations. Mayor R. E. Burt said the field will not be enlarged soon and cannot be designated a Class A field at its present size.

Many Baptists Attend Institute at Sherman

Whitewright attendees joined the first county wide institute for Daily Vacation Bible School staged by Baptists in the South, held in Sherman. Dr. Homer L. Grice of Nashville led Tuesday specialists from Dallas in department work, outlining programs for ages five to sixteen focused on worship, stories, crafts, and expressional activities.

Nearly Five Inches Of Rain This Week In Whitewright

The Whitewright area saw two heavy rain events this week with 2.26 inches Tuesday night and 1.56 inches Thursday morning totaling 4.77 inches. Creeks ran bank full and overflowed after the second storm. Farmers say the first rain damaged fields more and cotton sown earlier may need replanting.

Right of Way Settlements Reached in Highway 6 Projects

Settlements out of court were reached in condemnation suits for land needed for Highway 6 from Red River to Collin County and from Whitesboro to Denton County. Agreements covered rights of way near Denison Sherman and Van Alstyne, with appeals by R Flowers, and no figures released.

Coxs Married in Sherman Ceremony

Glendon Cox and Miss Loma F. Cox of Whitewright were married last Saturday afternoon in Sherman. The Rev. Mr. Baxter officiated. The groom is the son of Mrs. J. H. Cox and the bride the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cox. Both are well known locally and the groom works for Kimbell Milling Company.

Whitewright schools sent representatives to the County Inter scholastic Meet in Sherman last Saturday. J P Williams and Billie Magar led declamation entries, Madge Sears and Van Vestal competed in junior events, with Vestal taking county first in junior essay. High school juniors Velma Bennett and Mary Gae Wood scored 99 in spelling for second place, while grammar junior spellers Ellen Burnett and Freddie Dean Fain averaged 98. Sub junior spellers Monabelle Biggerstaff and Billie Jean Cox also competed. music memory entrants Frances Bryant, Maxine Roberts and Emmagene Sears scored 95 percent. The district did not enter athletic contests.
