W B Jerome formerly of Westville is accused of killing Charles Faure in Chicago after Faure courted Jerome's wife. Jerome faced manslaughter charges with bail recommended. reporting suggests possible acquittal or bail. The case draws local sympathy and condemnation debates.
Clerk George Link drew a venire of forty men for the disbarment trial of Lemuel Darrow W W Worden and Joho Ww Talbot. Sixteen remained after four o clock and sixteen more were cut to yield the final venire for trial.
In Laporte on July 14 disbarment proceedings against Mayor Darrow and City Attorney Worden, and John W. Talbott of South Bend took a sensational turn when Judge McClure of Anderson dismissed the venire, supporting the prosecution's claim of venire manipulation. The judge also declares McClung as an usurper of the office, nullifying his authority to draw jurors. A new venire will be drawn and trial postponed about ten days.
Judge Richter of the circuit court entered judgment for County Clerk-Elect George Link in a dispute with C. F. McClung over the county clerk office. The ruling followed overruling McClung’s demurrer. Attorney E. E. Weir consented, and an appeal to the supreme court will challenge the demurrer ruling.
Concord Kentucky man B F Leek says a twenty year lip sore caused agony until Bucklens Amica Salve cured it after other remedies failed. The salve eases burns cuts and wounds and is sold at E T Scotts drug store for 25 cents.
The Century Saloon and the New Central Cafe on West Main street closed last night. Both were run under non resident parties previously owning them. Police filed cases against both for selling liquor without a license.
Grand Trunk merchandise trains between South Bend and Chicago face thefts totaling 87000 in three weeks. Five jumpers named Spencer, Southworth, Keller, Hines, Seriff detained. six more arrested at Battle Creek. All pleaded guilty to boarding moving trains but denied theft links. releases followed.
The M I S C met at Dewey Hall on June 22 and July 6 for a summer program featuring roll call recitations, readings, and selections from Stoddard's India lecture. Mrs. Johnson read, Mrs. Chas. Baird shared a Life of Fannie Crosby sketch, and Miss Emma Baird sang with Anna Cathcart and Hila Flynn. lunch followed.

Jacob Fisher of Washington Township suffered serious injuries when a binder machine malfunctioned. He stopped to inspect it as a boy rode ahead and accidentally dropped a lever frightening the horses. The machine turned, knocking him down and injuring his left leg with several knife-like cuts. He will be laid up for some time.
Mrs Margaret Schultz sues for divorce from Fred J Schultz alleging cruelty and separation since 1905. They married August 21 1901. She seeks restoration of her maiden name Margaret Baddatz. Emma A Bishop petitions for divorce from John W Esham for cruelty and lack of support. The restraining order on Henry Schaumburg limits sale of four horses one colt one broad sow twelve pigs and seven cattle. other property unaffected.
Per the advertisement Deafness results from inflammation of the Eustachian Tube and catarrh. It claims local applications cannot reach the diseased area and offers one hundred dollars for any catarrh related deafness not cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure. Sold by druggists 75 cents Hall's Family Pills urged as best.
In a city court session three boys faced larceny charges for stealing five watches from Otto Kiopsch & Son hardware and tools from Monat Barnes. Two boys cried as they described parental hardships while the third cooperated. The case was certified to the superior court with probation supervision for the youths.
Westville Town Board at a special meeting approved turning the high school over to the township. Kalies and Brewer voted yes with Flynn against. Preparations include clearing school board indebtedness and minor issues before transfer. County Superintendent Bunnell supports the move and aims to have a commission in two years.
A. H. Davis of Mt. Sterling Iowa reports that kidney trouble lasting about two years was cured permanently by two bottles of Foley's Kidney Cure. E. T. Scott, druggist, notes the claim.
The notice states Foley's Honey and Tar is claimed as a cure for consumption in early stages and relief in severe cases. It warns that the product is a threat to health, urges against substitutes, and is attributed to druggist E. T. Scott.
Mrs. Minerva Smith of Danville Illinois says she suffered bronchitis for twenty years and found relief only after using Foley's Honey and Tar claiming it is a sure cure.
Dr Pagin treasurer of the Valparaiso school board submits cost details for the central school building. Original contract 43988 dollars, extras raise total to 58926 13 dollars not covering architect fees or superintendent salary. County commissioners appoint a special committee to investigate school board affairs. report awaited by Valparaiso citizens.
The county commissioners signed bonds for the Shreve and Biederstadt gravel roads in Michigan township. One bond of 15039.00 covers Shreve road construction and another of 9848.80 funds the improvement of the other highway.
A special county council session was postponed for two weeks after no quorum appeared Saturday morning causing the meeting to be adjourned.
Algernon S. Orr died Tuesday evening at Holy Family hospital after a long illness. He was born December 20, 1860 in LaPorte county and lived there most of his life, with seven years in the Black Hills. He married Etta Hall on April 13, 1887. she survives. He served as Scipio township trustee before resigning due to ill health. Funeral was Wednesday at 4 PM at Mrs. William C. Hail’s residence, with burial in Door Village Cemetery. He was a son of the late Gen. Orr and once farmed near Westville.
Sister M Eleonora once Miss Mary Wolf dies at her brother Joseph Wolf's home in Laporte on Thursday. Born March 19, 1884 she entered the Marie Stein Ohio convent February 4 1903 and later left due to tuberculosis. She spent the winter in Senora Alabama seeking relief.
Mrs. Mary Nesbitt aged 85 died July 11 at the home of her daughter Mrs. John Noble in Rolling Prairie. Born in Luzerne County Pennsylvania she was survived by three daughters Mrs. Ament of California Mrs. Edward Austin and Mrs. John Noble of Rolling Prairie and by a son James P. of Grand Junction Colorado.
Mrs Dennis Purvis aged 78 died at her home four miles southwest of Michigan City after fifty years residency in the county. She was born in Ireland and survived by her husband and three sons James Henry and Richard. Rufus Rice a well known livery man of Hebron died Sunday after a brief illness and his funeral was held at his Hebron home Tuesday at nine in the morning.
Laporte County Agricultural Association plans a boosted fair week starting September 12 with night illuminations, enhanced premiums, better tracks, top bands, daily attractions, spectacular nightly programs, and a gate fee of 25 cents. Floral Hall to feature brighter exhibits and prize winners to be proclaimed by royalty.
