William Martin Fickweiler 19 son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Fickweiler La Porte died Saturday night at San Diego hospital from injuries after the Bennington gunboat explosion. He served four years in the navy and was highly regarded by officers and crewmates. The family sought transfer from the Pacific coast but was refused. The navy notified his body should be shipped to Laporte if possible. otherwise burial at a Pacific naval cemetery. He leaves four sisters and three brothers all in Laporte.

Obituary of John Seppy 73 Veteran Civil War Sergeant
John Seppy aged 73 died at Laporte on July 19. His funeral was held Friday under Patton Post auspices. Born in St Nicholas parish Switzerland he came to America as a youth. He enlisted in Company C 20th Indiana volunteers in 1861 and served until March 21 1864 when discharged for disability from wounds received in action. He fought in all engagements of the regiment. on June 25 1862 he was shot in the right leg and left arm. his right leg was amputated Dec 15 1862 at David's Island General Hospital New York. He left the service as a corporal.
