North Indiana Traction granted fifty year electric line franchise

The Northern Indiana Traction company formerly Hobart & Western received a fifty year franchise from St. Joseph county commissioners to construct an electric line from South Bend to Valparaiso via Laporte. The plan includes overhead electrified cars, strict speed and fare schedules, safety duties, bridge and track works, tax exemptions for five years, and staged payments to townships. Construction must begin within four months with cars running by November 1904, secured by a 5000 bond.

Family Teken Sick and Poison Water Suspected

Dr J N Kelly treated the father and son at Wa Teteloff’s home after a sudden illness. The family suspects poisoned water, noting a grandson who drank only food did not fall ill. Mrs Teteloff also grew sick after drinking coffee in Michigan City. The doctor leans toward illness from a heavy meat meal and heat, not water poisoning.

Rev W H Knapp of Michigan City visited over Sunday at the Corners. Art Dorr and family were guests of S E Collins and family Sunday. Mrs Geo Tofle visited J Tofle Jr Sunday and attended Sunday school. Astrid Sunbury of Valparaiso was at the Corners Monday. A St Louis firm canvassed the area past week selling ranges and secured several sales. Geo Fulton of Chicago spent Sunday with his father J S Fulton and his family, who have been visiting the past week. Mrs Fulton and the children plan to stay another week.
