Allen C Harris of Company L, 44th U S W writes from sea near the Philippines about 28 days on the water since Honolulu. He notes a calm voyage, preparation for action, landfall expected the next day, and plans for combat readiness with 200 rounds of ammo and bandages for wounds. A death notice follows for Mrs Mary Sanders, aged 92, with funeral details and mentions of caregivers.
D H Turner of Dempseytown Pennsylvania reports using Dr King’s New Life Pills for two weeks and claims they restored his youth. The pills are advertised as vegetable, gentle on the stomach and bowels, and priced at 25 cents at Scott’s drug store.
The January Cosmopolitan presents sixteen noted authors including A T Quiller-Couch with The Lady of the Ship and John Luther Long with Dizzy Dave. Jesse McCord, aged 89 years 2 months and 29 days, died January 24 at his home. Born October 26, 1810 in Lewis County West Virginia, he lived across multiple towns and counties before settling here in 1882. A Republican and generous neighbor, he leaves a widow Nancy Melvina Reed who died in 1899. Funeral services will be at the M. E. church Friday at 11 a.m.
Davidson and Porter announce a massive sale starting Saturday January 27 featuring Muslin Underwear Linens Embroideries Lace and more at record low prices Calico two cents per yard and bleached Muslin four and a half cents per yard touted as the biggest sale of the century in Laporte.

County commissioners awarded contracts for furnishing stationery and other county supplies. Wilson & Humphreys of Logansport secured the stationery bid at 916.58 dollars, replacing a previous annual county expenditure. Other contracts were let to Moore & Richter for hardware, Lower & Son for straw, Marr for groceries, Peterson & Swanson for dry goods, Frederickson & McLane for drugs, and F. W. Meissner for additional items.
John G Schweitzer of Union Mills sues W C Weir of Laporte in circuit court over a fatal 1893 Kingsbury wreck. Both men were undertakers. Weir oversaw the killed. Schweitzer aided for experience while learning the trade. Schweitzer claims he was hired and seeks $75.
Jury commissioners have drawn a term jury for Michigan City convening next Monday. Grand jurors listed include Edward C. Howe Jacob May Samuel Fosdick George W. English Charles Wolfe E O Beahm.
