Illinois based Republican and Democratic organizers plan major statewide conventions in February and March. Porter county delegates and alternates to national and state gatherings are fixed, with meetings in Lafayette and Valparaiso. Major Simpson and John Dyer named as potential statewide candidates. Westville caucuses set for Feb 17 to organize precincts.
The Laporte County Republican Central Committee invites Republicans and supporters to meet in their townships on February 17 1900 at 7 30 p m to select delegates and alternates for the Tenth Congressional district conventions in Lafayette February 22 and March 22 1900 to nominate a congress candidate and to send delegates to the National Republican convention in Philadelphia Also to choose a presidential elector and delegates to the Republican State convention in Indianapolis April 25 and 26 1900.
The Superior Court notes apportionment for the last two conventions with township and city groupings. Wards and townships lacking enough delegates are coupled to reach the required totals. the top vote getters receive delegates and alternates. The state Democratic committee directs precincts in Laporte County to elect at least four members and a precinct chairman at meetings on February 2 1900. The precinct chairmen will then assemble February 25 1900 to elect a county chairman and secretary at Laporte City Hall.
Hammond backs a county man for superior court judge while Laporte Republicans rally to re nominate Judge Tuthill. The piece urges a solid united front, praising Tuthill’s record and calling delegates to vote for her first and always to avoid splits or swaps.

On February 9 the town hosts Miss M Alva Messenger harpist reading by Mary Maud Barnes and vocal solos by Miss Blanche Navarre. Each artist is famed in their field and the combined program offers a rare entertainment night. Messenger plays a $31,000 double action harp once used at the World’s Fair.
An advertisement asserts deafness cannot be cured by local applications and promotes Hall's Catarrh Cure as the remedy for deafness caused by catarrh. It states the Eustachian tube inflammation leads to rumbling or loss of hearing and offers one hundred dollars for an uncured case, with circulars available from F J Cuuxey & Co of Toledo Ohio and sold by druggists at 75 cents.
Crown Point leaders John Brown and Walter L Allman and Henry Schrage of Whiting will divide the Forsythe estate Thursday. The northern county land is valued at about two million dollars with some parcels at 2500 per acre. Nine children will receive this amount and some Cook county property is included. Most of the rest lies in Lake county near Wolf Lake.
Charlies H Lewis born October 15 1851 in Wes ville Indiana lived 24 years in Walkerton then moved to Chicago working mainly for the North Chicago Street Railway Company. He died January 30 1900 at 6 30 am aged 45 3 months after a short illness. He married Catherine Utley April 7 1878 and had two children. He was a member of Larrabee Tent No 115 OTMA.

Local debate over Argus hoboes and wage reports in Youngstown and Iron Mountain. Commander Couden of the U S navy visits for a couple weeks. Tecumseh Fusinoig Co builds new East 6th Street factory. No mad dogs or major illnesses this winter, per local notes.
Bigelow reports a light snow Sunday night. Jerome Slocum visited Valparaiso last Monday and Miss Sylvia Slocum resumed duties there Tuesday. Hiram Herrold of Westville came on business Tuesday. Abram Aker and wife visited S. P. Howell’s family Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Peters visited their farm Monday. Wm Carpenter bought the Bert Eaton barn and moves it toward his home near Haskell.
Burdick residents engage in visits and illnesses. Joseph Sarver, 84, dies of pneumonia and will be buried in Westville cemetery. A church coffee social next Friday aims to raise funds for the preacher. Local figures Jasper Gust, Henry Soper, and Winander Booker appear in town updates and travel reports.
An old advertisement claims La Grippa can be cured in two days with Laxative Bromo Quinine Tablets. It promises money back if no cure and notes E W Grove’s signature on every box with a 25 cent price.
Prof. A. M. Cooney will be at Westville Opera House Monday evening December 12, 1900, to organize and outline activities. The notice invites attendance and support for the upcoming arrangements.
Dallas Fryar recovers from a broken leg but remains seriously ill after a lung ailment last Thursday. The Wanatah Mirror editor married Miss Sadie Thompson last Monday at her home. Dr. Carson of Valparaiso consulted on Fryar. Mrs. C. N. Osborn fell ill with heart failure and remains precarious. Robert Schmidt, wife visited Chicago. Mrs. Herman Rehder died after months with consumption and was buried at Valparaiso. Various local notes on births and moves conclude the item.
Mrs Henry Wolford and baby returned home after visiting her parents. Mrs August Weisman of Burdick visited her parents. James Dysard Jr and wife and baby visiting his father near the city. Several attended the sale at the late Rachael Boothe residence. Nina Beadle very ill closes school. An insane woman named Stanke from Michigan City passed through town.
Pastor Rev Geo Musson of Ligonier begins a revival meeting this Wednesday with daily special song services. Elder Musson is described as an able speaker and all in the community are urged to attend. Elder Stewart will preach at Ligonier Sundays while the meetings continue here.
Tickets go on sale at the Wabash Depot on February 6 and 20, March 6 and 20, and April 3 and 11, 1900 for trips to the same 1899 territory. Brakeman Lowell recounts a catastrophic wreck near Edwardsburg where Conductor Webber and Engineer Stackhouse died after a boiler explosion. Fireman Burchard survived with minor injuries, while Lowell and other crew members suffered burns and cuts. Rescue efforts brought the men to a farmhouse as nurses and doctors arrived from South Bend.
